Freight is moving. If ur working for 3 or 4 carriers, u are busy, I was working for 2 carriers. If your working for one carrier it can get slow. Hey , why do u think fast food chains have many locations? simple, more business, more locations to draw from out there. So if I was back out there, I would work for 4 carriers, let the numbers work for you, do the math.

Well I can counter I know a couple drivers that do that multi-carrier deal and they are sitting a week at a time...you maybe gifted with the Right place, right time luck.

How much is a snotload?
As much or more money on the average than I made east of the Rockies. Longer loads, fewer swaps, more (bonus) money for the loads.

As for Panther "logistics", they're much more than an expedite company. Just because you see "Panther" as the customer or the carrier doesn't necessarily mean they cannibalized a cargo van for it. Panther bought Integres Global Logistics, Elite Transportation Services (Portland, LA, San Fran, San Diego and Seattle), and a couple of other national and global logistics companies, all of which operate under the Panther name. Most of that isn't "expedited" stuff although some segments of the supply chain may be expedited. It's how they can keep some drivers busy out west, especially stuff through Elite Transportation (not to be confused with Panther Elite Services, which is like FedEx Custom Critical White Glove). Anything over 1500 miles can usually be shipped cheaper and faster with air cargo than surface expedite, so the "long loads" for cargo vans mainly happen when the customer wants exclusive use of the truck, anyway. If the customer wants and pays for exclusive use, they aren't gonna stick it on the back of an LTL or TL trailer or economy air cargo on the cheap just to pocket the difference. Too many of their customers have access to rather transparent real-time information about the shipment, including truck numbers and Qualcomm information.

There are lots of other reasons, especially in a cargo van or Sprinter.

Most of the slow issues are tied directly to the vans. They carry a higher percentage of auto freight which by its very nature can be somewhat seasonal. Just how it is. Straights and tractors are far less effected. As Turtle mentioned, the vanners at Panther that do well are the ones that know where the freight is and stay away from the van conventions.
"Misery loves company". I am amazed at times when a truck stop is filled with vans (same ones for days) and they all huddle together whine & complain and wonder where the freight is?

One thing I can say about panther freight. At least from where I sit. I pickup almost EVERYTHING at Forward Air (oddly enough, they don't even own a plane).. The rest at the fedex terminal at the airport.

I think panther is working the long runs in to normal freight lines and having small local companies run them out the last mile.

I was running solo at panther for a bit and was offered a 460 mile load. Drove 200 and had 7 hours left and they cross docked me to put it on a Ground Flight LLC truck. No clue why. That was just how things are run at panther.

Panther is run by accountants. The other truck was cheaper.

They may have been doing the load for Ground Flight and that's what they wanted.
Exactly. And that's the most probable reason. Panther doesn't give up control of its freight as easily as people may think.

That very well may be the case. However when I pickup a panther load I tend to have 30 minutes more than the run will take to deliver it.

And I highly doubt they air freight (fedex air) slow boat loads in to Minneapolis. It could just be there is a lack of trucks in town.

No they were supposed to have me meet another panther truck and crossdock with them but it broke down. Ground flight came to the rescue but I didnt understand the cross dock since I had plenty of time to get it delivered. I mean I could understand if i delivered in a couple of hours and was out of time and had to wait 10 hours but i had plenty of time to get there and drop then drive to a truckstop to restart.

Oh well that is a thing of the past.....

Is that according to panthers 46 (or so) MPH rule?

Remember, Panther has their own system aka stupidity.

Yeah probably so. If I averaged 50 mph i could have made it with some time to spare. But the dispatch in there driving their computer chair knows better than us you know, the stupid ones behind the wheel.

460-200=260
260/7= 37.14 mph

Those numbers don't make sense somewhere. No time issue reason to transfer a load like that and I would have a serious problem with it unless they had an actual, defendable reason.

BTW, Just noticed your from West Plains. I'm just south of ya in Cherokee Village (Hardy), AR.

Before you got dispatched...did you move at all that you can remember? a run to Wally World? go to the truck wash across the street? anything that would have started your clock?

Good thought. The QC knows if you move. even if it's to the other side of the parking lot.

back when I ran for them there was not a hours rule for cargo vans. I'd move all the time while waiting. Over to the truck wash, thrift store, local attractions. It didn't matter. If I was bored and it looked cool, we'll I'd motor on over.

I see Panther has effectively killed sight seeing during your down time.

As Turtle/Moot says...embrace the stupidity, resistance is futile.......LOL
