I dont Know Panther too well But i sure see these posts allot of guys sitting long term waiting, Hey Im never sitting ANYWHERE for 5 days waiting for mystery freight, MOVE, ask dispatch were the load is and go....its better to spend a little on fuel and earn then sit and Burn isnt it....Get to the load and drive, everyones taken a load thats got them out of the freight lanes, even in the big citys, etc it happens and yes there are slow times. Get a hobby like running/Walking, sightseeing Ive gotten outta that truck and taken Greenline tours....or done Maintenance, or Housework in the truck.....You can even be like those TV Roaddogs and drive a load or two for USHIP...Possibly paying for the move to the freight....or dinner !!!

Why the swap on a 680 miler? Did you start your clock too soon, long deadhead or did you get hung up at the shipper?

60 miles to the shipper ...But c'mon, I think my mother in law can drive 680 miles without swap...Safety from Panther it's just ridiculous...Pick up at 3:30PM deliver at 8Am..

One thing I can say about panther freight. At least from where I sit. I pickup almost EVERYTHING at Forward Air (oddly enough, they don't even own a plane).. The rest at the fedex terminal at the airport.

I think panther is working the long runs in to normal freight lines and having small local companies run them out the last mile.

I just ran a load that was really tight. Pick up at 3:30 Central time and deliver 960 miles away by 8:00 in the morning Central time. Seventeen and a half hours for 960 miles. I got the load delivered about 10 minutes before the protect time! That was driving up and down mountains in the rain for the better part of 500 miles.

Panther is right to limit the drivers because some drivers do not know their own limitations and they do need to be policed - but yu can't make money doing this job if you can't keep the long loads.

There was a load out of here today, Spokane Washington all the way to San Antonio Texas and it had 48 hours to drive almost 2300 miles. I could do that run in my sleep and still get two 5 hour breaks in on it - but Panther would never let me keep it - and they would end up swapping me in some small po-dunk town somewhere.

I remember when I went to Panther orientation.....they said "At the end of the day we have over a million dollars in cargo that we cant cover because we dont have enough units to cover it all". Now the way I see....where is all that freight? When you leave a team sit for 5 days because you're out west or send a team on an deadhead excursion back north only to be number 7....where's the freight? I dont understand if Panther has all that freight why units have to sit for days not making a dime why keep adding units, twice a week? :(

I don't really know why your sitting, but our solo trucks are running and so are our teams. Do you have your haz mat? Can you go to Canada? What kind of truck do you drive? Can your truck haul the freight? Are you a team? How is your pick up and delivery times? Do you have a 72% or better except rate because that does play a part in the crush systems they use. So many things that can keep you from being offered a load. There is freight and our drivers turn down freight all the time. I don't think they have enough truck trucks to be honest as they have to find other carriers to cover the loads they do have.

I hate going into their Eagan facility. Panther insists on a 08:00 Central Time pick up and rarely do they start loading trucks until after 09:00. Once I tripped over my freight trying to get to the pick up window, it was still 1½ hours until I got loaded.

You lost me on this one.

Wait days for a load? I just dropped a load off in Southern Ga, I was #3 on the tifton board, and there was a total of 9 empty trucks (semi's) in GA. I didn't wait, I booked a load thru internettruckstop.com back to Ohio, and before i left GA, Panther has me pre-planned to pick up the same afternoon i drop off, going to PA... I don't wait, if i have to wait more than 24 hrs, Ill find a load to a different location. Im still new at this, but I dont understand why some guys sit for 5 days...??? Im a tad confused about that.....longest Ive sat waiting on a load is 24 hrs... Yea, there are slow times... but still sit for almost a week??????????????????????

What he means is that Panther is putting the longer cargo van runs on one trailer with multiple loads mixed together. This means that they are putting them on 2d or 3d day flights and then having local companies pick the loads up from the air-port and shuttle them over to the final destination. If there is a load going from Houston to Seattle that picks up friday and delivers monday afternoon - the load can be booked as a surface expedite - billed at a premium rate- and then put on a plane very cheap because it can be placed on an economy flight.

The freight can also be picked up by an outside truckload carrier and mixed with other expedites going to the same direction - dropped off at a terminal - and then trucked in to the final destination my smaller courier companies. There are many different ways to skin a cat in this business.

Fins up you are in the big rig and can find more loads. Im thinking in a van panthet swaps out runs due to someone wanted to go that ways are they had no loads lately. Now for me if I sit more than two days its my own fault the loads are out here. With panther its good to know where the customers are the closer truck 8 out of ten times no matter what board position will get the load. They cover there base customers first then bid on loads late in the evening

Yes. it is VERY annoying. I hate going to that place. my Carrier has no problem charging retention so at least I get paid to sit.

What I mean is FA must have normal routes they run their OTR trucks. if panther gets a load in say Miami FL going to Chicago IL and they look at FA's route they realize there is a truck headed to IL they can stick it on for 30-40 cents a mile. So they have a local company (or one of their drivers) run the short from pickup to the hub then once in chicago they have another company run it out the rest of the way.

It's about all I do with american expediting other than my nightly route. Pick at FA, DHL, Fedex and run it out, or pick it up and bring it to FA, DHL, Fedex..

the bulk of it all comes from Panther "logistics"

Freight is moving. If ur working for 3 or 4 carriers, u are busy, I was working for 2 carriers. If your working for one carrier it can get slow. Hey , why do u think fast food chains have many locations? simple, more business, more locations to draw from out there. So if I was back out there, I would work for 4 carriers, let the numbers work for you, do the math.

This post sounds contradictory. How can both halves of the sentence be true? In reverse order, specifically. If you can't make money with their restrictive policies, how could you call them right?
