I didn't get to see the video when this happened. I was driving in Michigan. The radio news reports didn't mention the race of either the victim or perpetrators . Not necessarily saying this crime was a racial incident, but just an observation that they(some local news outlets) didn't identify race in the story.
The local news did not mention race until the second day, that was because the racial make up of the mob was not confirmed. The racial angle is now being talked about but greatly played down.
This SHOULD be prosecuted as a hate crime. A mob, made up of black people, attacked, beat and robbed a white man.
Now, should this be this way? NO! Crime should be treated as crime. Had this been a white mob who attacked, beat and robbed a black man, there would be massive outrage in the media. Holder would be looking into federal civil rights violations.
Detroit is again, a tinder box. This summer could be REALLY bad is something is not done now to put an end to it. Black "leaders", "advocates", what ever one wants to call them, SHOULD be out in force right now. They SHOULD be leading, encouraging people to turn in the thugs who committed this horrible crime. They SHOULD be condemning the actions of these people, loudly. The media should be ALL over this.
All races are damaged by incidents such as this. It creates, at the very least mistrust, it can, and does, create hate. That process helps no one. Those who will be hurt the most will be those who can least afford it.
Leaders should NOT be divisive. Leaders should not teach dependence, they should not teach the "victim" lifestyle. The SHOULD be out teaching self reliance, inspiring people to pull themselves out of the mess they find themselves in. The Jackson's and Sharpton's of this world preach the doctrine of blame. They seek to drive wedges rather than build bridges. IF they were "leaders", or people who truly advocated for those they believe need advocated for, would be out in force. They would be very vocal, in the condemnation of this incident, vocal in teaching that incidents such as this will do nothing to improve the lot of the city, or the people that reside there.
Many of today's black "leaders" or "advocates" seek to continue the misery of those they pretend to represent. They only have power as long as the poverty, crime and hatred exist. They act only in "their" best interest.
