What Carrier really shows they care for their O/O?

The poll results are very telling, both in the numbers themselves and in how long it took for some to get even one vote.

As others have said, "cares about" is a broad category subject to broad interpretations. Nevertheless, it seemed to make sense to vote for Diane's and my present carrier of choice. In doing so, I am using "cares for" to mean respect, as in looking on us as business people and treating us accordingly.

That said, carriers perform a safety function and at Landstar that is job 1. Were I to cross a safety line, the carrier would care about its safety rating more than it would care about me.

Part of getting satisfied with a carrier is to find one that cares about the same things you care about. Safety has always been important to Diane and me. Landstar is more stringent on safety issues than our previous carrier, but since we share the same concerns, we can live it.

I think a more interesting question would be, would you work for a carrier that didn't care for you?

I should have worded it different Phil. :)Yes, a carrier that will respect and will help you in a time of need and won't leave you hanging. I know Panther, Load1, Landstar, and TST Expedited services does and will.

Yes, Diane and I would work for a carrier that did not care for us. We did so for eight years, knowing full well that we were never more than a number to them. But for most of that time, they played fair and we made good money.

It did not matter that they did not care for us. It mattered only that we could operate in a safe way, be treated fair, and have a good opportunity to make good money.

Exactly. I don't think for a second that my carrier cares for me. At the same time, I probably don't want to work for a carrier that cares for me. Why because I think I can take care of myself, but you know what, if I am working for a carrier that "cares for its owner / operators" like family, then I probably don't want to be in a business relationship with that carrier.

You know what, because if a carrier cares about its o/o that way, its probably not making the best business decisions for all of its o.o as a whole.

The reality is, in this world and economy, you can't afford to pull dead weight and if someone isn't carrying their weight, then I don't want my carrrier carrying them and taking away from me.

But I do demand and expect respect from my carrier. I expect to be paid on time and what I was told. I expect to be treated mostly fairly and mostly equally, I realize that the world isn't perfect and it isn't fair all the time.

Caring in a carrier is overrated imo.

So Phil, seeing you put it in the manner you did, I assume that FedEx doesn't care about safety ??

you know what they say about assuming. where did you get that by what he posted. phil said landstar was more stringent than fedex on safety. not that fedex didnt care about safety. he did say he didnt think fedex cared for them.

this whole thing is, well, never mind. just glad that those of you who lease somewhere and your carrier doesnt care about you and those of us that lease where our carriers do, find the same satisfaction. some are happy with a distant relationship and others like a closer one. by no means does that mean that one puts forth anymore effort toward the end goal. a carrier either gives 100% toward that responsibility or they give less. responsibility/goal = finding the o/o as much freight as possible, treating all equally, and paying what they quote on time. arent those the three most important issues ?

Well he said it right there, they care more about their safety rating than they do about him. I know first hand what he means and know what FedEx cares about first hand, doesn't make either bad just assuming that he means the same thing as I would, the reason for the ??

re read, he said safety is #1 at landstar and if they were to cross the line the carrier [landstar, which phil is speaking of in this post] would care more about their safety rating than them. or did i misread the post. phil did make clear that he is referring to cares about to mean respects,

So .. all these posts were pre-conceived? Done with malice to goad a poster?

NAN, if you've ever read the Load 1 forum, you'd know that none of the opinions on the carrier were anything other than the posters have expressed before.
If you've read every other forum, you'd know that the malicious glee & junior high school tactics of ganging up on specific people isn't anything new, either.

Somehow that is not a good endorsement .. in my opinion.

I agree - it's not. But as English Lady commented: it's not representative of everyone at Load 1.

Sue, "sarcasm"....:D

Not sarcasm, not even close.

You can even go as far as to look at it as, poking a bee hive with a stick to get a reaction....:D

And you can call it whatever - it's still extremely immature and insulting, and you deserve to get stung for it. Smiley faces don't make it a joke.

I will give out my carrier info and everything once I make sure no one can object to me on certain load boards, but I am a carrier now! When I have Chef Dennis, and OVM, and TJP sitting in my orientation class, I will have arrived as a big dog! But until then I'll feast on the scraps that the larger carriers throw my way.
