What Carrier really shows they care about their drivers. You can vote for as many as you want.

What I mean is will the carrier help you with a repair in a time of need? Does the carrier do things to show you that they care about their O/O and want to keep them happy?

I would think it will depend on a O\O time with a Carrier. If you have a O\O who's on time for pick up & delivery, doesn't turn down every other load offered. Has some time in with any company. That they would be recognized by the Company as beneficial to the Company and someone to keep in your employ.

Should also ask what carrier doesn't care :)
I ca,'t vote, as I've only been with one carrier, and they don't.

And except for the fact I've only been with them 1 year, I meet all of Bill's other criteria.

That's a bit much of a loaded question if you ask me. For one thing, "cares about" is arbitrary. For instance, to one O/O, just being kept busy constitutes a carrier who "cares about" him. To another O/O, only carriers who are willing to hold his hand every step of the way would earn that distinction.

Sadly the answer is a very very short list. They say there's an exception to every rule and the rule is "we're the carrier and we're all smoke and mirrors and lip service and really care nothing about you at all because there are 10 waiting in line for your one spot if you leave". There is an exception to that rule and they're the exceptional company. All the rest are just that, all the rest.

The answer is quite clear and simple.Load One, hands down.No other comes close.

John Elliott is a great team Leader and looks at the big picture when it comes to building up Load1. When I first met John at his office well over a year ago, I wanted to see if John cared about making money off of things like QC and other things. John didn't want to markup anything on his Owner Operators. Load1 even pays the road taxes for the whole fleet. He can charge it back to his owner operators but he doesn't.

That is why Load1 Fleet is growing.

Youre correct. He is growing, because he is dedicated to us, and in turn, we are dedicated to him with the up most respect. The are a few companies out there, who try to make their money off of the drivers, with ridiculous fees and deductions, instead of making it off the freight to begin with.I believe our turnover rate is the lowest, which speaks for itself.:D

Load 1 is John Elliott....but it is also more then that, well what i mean is that it is the "people" that make Load 1...I am not talking about the O/O's or those that lease there, but the staff...they are a reflection of John and how he does things...i know a few people that worked else where before going to Load 1, their attitudes are different then it was before...they became Load 1 family and they knew it was different and they now do business Johns way...working to make the company the place to work and grow...

Yea, Load 1 is John Elliott and everything that goes on there is a reflection of him and how things should be done....

i must say as one of the newest members to the family, i agree. since coming to load one our stress levels are almost non existent. sure there are issues here and there but i dont worry about IF they will be taken care of, i only worry about finding the time to get them taken care of. we are still in that learning curve. learning them and them us. that is as difficult as it gets. the place is just home and that is attributed to john and the staff. this is the closest if not exact example of home we have found since all the blue and green blood drained out of our veins and everyone knows we had those green and blue pom poms flying from the truck. we truly think reincarnation is possible, if not, they must be twins. so we are currently getting a transfusion of red and blue blood and the pom poms are on order. so thanks for making expediting enjoyable again and for giving a wandering and wondering team a place to call home and one that truly feels that way. we truly hated being homeless. thats just not our style.

I'm curious and not to deflate the people's sale's pitches but how do you know what is the best, which one cares and so on when you try them all to make an informed decision?

My carrier cares, my last carrier cares and the one before that cares. The carriers I worked with last years cared, they did a lot more than Load-1 - amazingly a lot more but it seems that the question and all the answers are relative to the person and not to any general group.

I guess it is like saying Kenworth is the best truck because it is cool looking while Mack is the worst because it is hard to find service when you are in Death Valley.

well, all i can say is that over the past five years we have had experience with multiple carriers { which we are not proud of } and none of them cared as much or were as o/o oriented as load one. this is not a biased comment but one derived from experiences of past carriers.

Been with 4 carriers prior to Load 1. One large and 3 small. The large, did not care at all. Driver relations was a joke. 2 of the small had no clue. The one small carrier was good, not great, but good.

Define "care's for".

All I ask of a carrier is to stay the hell out of my business, I don't want them being my "bank" in times of trouble. I will manage that myself.

I don't want them holding my hand, guiding me, making decisions for me.

Allow me to succed, or fail on my own.

If that is YOUR definition .. then Landstar is the answer.

If you require assistance to manage your own affairs, then chose one of the other's.

And no, I did not vote, the poll was self serving ... always leave an out on a poll, like "none of the above", "does not apply to me", etc, or the poll is skewed.

After seeing notanewbie's comments brings up the issue do you want a carrier to hold your hand every step of the way or just get the work for you and let you be responsible for your business?

I am guessing that people want to be employees, not business people, right?

when people talk about break down care, fancy lounges that you can do your laundry, and a bunch of other things, it makes it sound like the carrier needs to be there to do more than just find the work.

dont know about breakdown care. always take care of myself. as for a carrier, and to please some [load one] providing showers, laundry, a place to wash your truck and other various driver appreciated perks has nothing to do with being left alone to run your own business. so if you want to be left alone to succeed on your own then load one is the place. come on, REALLY. do you honestly think one has any bearing on the other ?
