Weapon at Base makes for a bad day!

I would be very careful by saying what constitutes a weapon.

Regardless, the company you drive for may think that a pellet gun is still a gun.

Not if you are in the Army!! I still remember that poor soldier (not me) running around the entire company with his RIFLE held high over his head in in left hand and his other hand holding his DingaLingaLing shouting at the top of his lungs: "This is my rifle, this is my gun, one is for shooting and one is for fun!!!" It was 93 degrees and muggy that day. A hard way to learn the difference between the two.

It may be a "gun" to some but it is NOT a firearm. Neither will EVER be a "gun" to those of us who went through military basic training!! :p

What does a van driver know about truck safety? Did he ever do a log book? How about the mechanics of a straight or tractor? Can he inspect a trailer? Does he know when the slack adjusters need tightened?

Or is it just...your truck needs washed, you need a shave and wear your uniform shirt...the inside of your van is messy...

and I am not knocking the person doing the job, just the need of the position. and it is just my opinion...

I had the pleasure of meeting Terry last week, and we had a great and lengthy conversation touching many subjects. It doesnt surprise me to hear what he sees and finds out here.Even the best of the best can make mistakes, or overlook something. After thinking about it, and in talking with him, I dont think that him being out here is a bad thing, just keeping drivers on their toes to make sure everything is in compliance, which in turn will save them money and a possible violation and citation.Especially with CSA2010 coming uo, I would appreciatte this kinda thing as well.

Then you wouldn't mind an IRS agent roaming a truck stop...just to keep you on your toes that is...

I for one would NOT appreciate it....I don't need a company man looking over my shoulder...with CSA coming he gives a rats azz for you but is only taking care (protecting) of the company side of CSA....

Like I said Terry is a great guy, lots of experience..
it is the position I have a provlem with..

I reprinted (italics) a few lines from the two news articles cited in this thread.

The lockdown went into effect about 9:15 a.m. on the 42,000 acre Naval Air Systems Command base (NAVAIR) at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

"This morning, around 10 o'clock, we had simultaneous security events occur here.

"At 9:30 a.m., the 87th Security Forces Squadron responded to simultaneous incidents on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst," the Air Force said in a statement. "Due to security forces quick and timely response, base security ensured the incident was contained. No personnel were in danger at any time and no injuries have been reported."

The simultaneous report of gunshots at one gate and security guards' discovery that a civilian delivery driver was armed at another entrance prompted a lockdown today at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst that brought out Air Force troops and snarled traffic in three towns.

Investigators could not substantiate that there was any gunfire around a commercial truck gate at Lakehurst,

Sources said a FedEx driver delivering packages was taken into custody at a non-commercial delivery gate after security found a 9 mm firearm in the truck. No shots were fired.

According to an account by military officials, the episode began when a security guard heard what sounded like gunfire near the truck gate off Route 547, where heavy vehicles make deliveries at the northeast corner of the base.

The two reports coming simultaneously prompted officials to order a base-wide lockdown, and troops from the Air Force 87th Security Squadron were called to Lakehurst. As area police closed access points and searched along roadsides, a State Police helicopter and military UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters churned low over the pine woods, concentrating on the area around the truck gate.

"We don't believe the two incidents were connected in any way,"

"I trust our military. I think we're well protected, not a problem" said Lakehurst resident Linda King.

Still, there were others, like Vinnie Colandera, who felt otherwise.
Vinnie Colandera? From Jersey? Oh the humanity!

then back it up with dispatchers practicing in front of a mirror "do you have any weapons?"

And back that up with drivers practicing in front of a mirror: "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well I'm the only one here. Who the f*#k do you think you're talking to?"
