I know this is totally off the original topic, but what burns my *** is when we are on time for a pickup, and they drag their feet, etc for whatever reason, and we don't get paid for the first 2 or 3 hours. But, if we are late for any reason, they are cying bloody murder, wanting a reduction in the freight bill, etc...not all of the time, but it has happened once in awile. Communication is of the most important thing we can do while on a load, letting dispatch know of any setback, even of the smallest nature.

We can drive for two days, get to a delivery, and it seems that sending an arrival triggers load offers. I want to concentrate on the customer but I have less than ten minutes to answer the offer.
Would those little slider disks help by making pallet slide easier ? A cable winch that slides into a receiver behind the truck ?
Or just putting multi-pallet loads into straight trucks ?

An electric wench that just snaps into the bumper when needed would be a solution that we have talked about before

Some use a piece of carpet...or something.... sprayed with silicone spray. They say that you can push a pretty heavy pallet by hand that way.

I think there is a simpler solution than what most are thinking. We don't generally get really heavy pallets. If you break a chain in an expedite van, you were using a really, really crappy chain....seems to me.

I really wonder if this is a result of those less experienced and too cheap to buy the proper equipment to do the job properly in the first place. What I mean is, I cannot tell you how many times I have seen vanners, cubers, come in, and have 4 metal racks/tubs secured to the walls with those red 1" ratchet straps often found at Wal-Mart, in a multi-pack, with plastic hooks on the ends. That'll do alot of good..lol..And then, they tie them together, the red straps, and expect them to pull a tub/basket. I think that in doing so, the strap has broke while being pulled, and hopefully a near-miss to the forklift driver by a flying strap. First of all, it is the carriers fault for not making sure their drivers have the proper equipment. Like e-track.And second of all, the forklift driver should of never even trusted a piece of strap that thin and small to begin with. I was told that is what happened at Sharonville Ford, when I was there, that that's why they don't drag pallats anymore on a van.Get a good, solid chain, with a tow hook on the end of it.Can't go wrong that way.

Doesn't hurt to have one of these...

Tried the carpeting..dosn't work on the type of finish I have....now a nic shiny floor it might....use carpet to move big appliances around....

Breaking the cheesy pallet is dangerous as the chain will come at you.
true...I just haven't had any problems. I use a long, flat tow strap.

Has anyone confirmed that this is actually something to be concerned about....an OSHA rule, or something?

I have had no problems getting pallets pulled to the rear. The most common response I get is that they are impressed I carry something to do it with. Apparently many don't.

If it is an OSHA rule how much will it really impact vanners.

What percentage of your loads do you have to pull your pallets ?

That's what I've heard more than anything, the fact that I actually have something to pull them out with. I have seen several who don't.
