Somebody mentioned a 12-volt winch, I've thought of the purchase of a come-along, the only problem with either of these is anchoring the device. The come-along points up the problems of using nylon straps (of any size) since in order to use a come-along you would be in the line of fire when that strap breaks. Special note: Nylon strap can stretch upwards of 40 percent-- that's a lot of pent-up energy if/when that strap breaks. It's a force to be feared.

This is one time a receiver hitch with a purpose-built bar comes into its own. Slide the winch into the receiver, apply power and drag the pallet to the rear.

Like I said I think they are pretty neat. I would also say its personal choice I can see why people like them.

As too your question if receivers quit pulling freight I would hope to get one before the price increases. I would also take a hard look at the in floor rollers.

I see 3 problems to the power deck. You have the loss of height and loss of payload. My biggest concern is that I like my etrack in the floor and I don't see anything on the power deck for securement.

I refuse to allow anyone on my truck with forklift as I have had two diferent morons dammage the truck to where I had to spent a couple days and several hundred dollars repairing. Not to mention the desire to buy stock in Grote and Trucklite after several licence plate lights required by D.O.T. being ripped off at 30 bucks a whack it and not getting compensated. I tell the Shipper or receiver to buy the truck and they can drive on it all day long.
Yes Ive been asked not to return a few times simply put my truck, my insurance, my livelyhood, and my rules.

If their not going to unload the 2nd pallet why would the shipper order a van to begin with and load the 2nd pallet? I know that is a trick question, but perhaps the reciever wanted the cheapest way whatever the means?

A simple method to help protect yourself from a strap or cable hitting you or someone else when it breaks.
Once the cable is taut lay a towel or blanket flat over the cable near the center. The towel, will absorb a lot of the energy.

Actually for me, when a costumer like NLM or the big load boards, I have no problem taking it to their Xdock/logistic warehouse (they all have one) for a drop charge...IF they want that policy it is going to have a cost, like everything in business...

You rarely know who the paying customer is on a load. They could have no idea of policy at the recieving end.

At the next EO EXPO, stop by the CIS booth. Ask Shelly or her husband (sorry don't remember his name) to see the inside of their Sprinter.

He is an engineer and built and designed the system in their van. It's a pretty neat system.

Don't like chains and probably will never have one. I prefer a good quality tow strap.

I carry both; a 16', G-70, ⁵⁄₁₆ transport chain, a 24' tow strap and a set of pallet tongs. I rarely use the tow strap. Tow straps are elastic by design. When they break or become unhooked in use, that stored energy has to go somewhere, usually in the wrong direction.

A quality chain will not break pulling a 2500# pallet. If the chain or tongs should release, the stored energy dissipates immediately, no whiplash effect. My chain and tongs probably weighs in at about 20lbs, combined. Extra weight for sure, but worth it.

The good news is if one pallet limit will be the new norm, you vanners can do some killer sleepers now.
A-Team style vans.

Usually when a chain goes even a quality chain it mostly likely will be a fragment that gets ya and not the whipping chain like cables and straps..Hopefully the worst that happens is a ding in your paint job or a busted window..
With that said,,don't forget your hard hat and safety glasses when ya hook-up.

Encountered proplem: Nope
Read the new rules: Nope
Solution: Close your doors after they refuse the freight. Contact dispatch and inform them they are refusing to unload freight. Ask what Xdock they want to pay you to go to or whats the load offer paying to take it back where it came from. Im thinking someone will unload it shortly afterwards. But remember,,Be polite this could turn into some good wait time for the truck maybe.

I'm not a van driver but if I was, that would be my approach. Drivers who give away their time and do work for free do so at their own peril, and shippers and consignees will take advantage all day long.

I'd also spend the money to buy a good pallet puller so dispatches would pick me as a way to avoid such problems at docks.

I had a chain break while securing a load of trucks.
A fragment,or piece of chain, flew about three hundred feet, over a fence, and into a postal compound.
I got hit buy a chain end unloading at Rush Peterbilt in San Antonio. Closed my eye, drove to next del which closed soon, unloaded their truck, parked back at Rush and went to clinic.
Got stitches in the eyebrow. Came that close to loosing an eye.
There's no pallet pulling in my vehicles.

That is why they are called "accidents"....the best one can do is to minimize equipment failure, but crap happens....

what I really really dislike is OLD information ....like appointment time 6am...they haven't opened at 5 am for the last 8 years BUT NLM or whatever shipper it is, has not updated their info...BUT who cares?....NLM usually does not pay for the 1st 2 hours anyhow...that could effect someones log book really bad....

Worse yet, they haven't been at that address for years.
GM coded 5 loads of trucks wrong. I drove from Mich to Miami for 0700 Mon delivery. Spent three hours in discussion with customer before it was determined that the trucks belonged at upfitter in Goshen,In.
