It looks like the Atlanta RICO case against Trump and his associates has hit a snag; The so-called "RICO expert" DA prosecuting the case is corrupt, and incompetent to boot. Fani Willis, who was a rising star among the liberal media only a few months ago has been exposed for misappropriation of public funds and other chicanery with her paramour, whom she hired to prosecute the case at an overpaid rate in spite of his lack of experience in the field; he's a personal injury lawyer. If there's a shred of integrity in the GA governor's office, this huckster and her boyfriend should be removed from the case, if not her position entirely, and prosecuted herself for fraud. The RICO case against Trump may not be going away yet, but it's certainly falling apart at this point.

While the accusations provide a rich trove of political fodder for those who trade in fodder, I've been waiting to see if these accusations have merit or are groundless. I was glad to see the judge will have a hearing on the matter and the accusations and responses are being expressed in motions before the court. If Willis collapses under the weight of certain accusations that turn out to be in fact true, that will not necessarily mean the case she made against Trump will also collapse.
There will be a successor DA, interim DA, temporary DA or something like that. The office will not remain vacant. I'd be quite surprised if a new DA dropped the case. I'd expect the new DA to pick up the case and continue where Willis left off. I might be wrong about that, but that is what I'd expect if Willis dug herself into a deep hole she cannot escape.
I would not take away Willis' "RICO expert" status. We've seen it happen many, times that someone genuinely competent and highly credentialed in their field totally blows it in another domain, such that their career is ruined. The collapse in one domain does not neutralize expertise in another. But it often neutralizes their future effectiveness in their area of expertise.
Pastors who have affairs, conservative political party chairs who film their three-way sex trysts, prosecutors who are outed by the prostitutes they hired, politicians who take bribes, priests who abuse children, bosses who sexually harass their employees, lawyers whose licenses are stripped because of bad acts; in all such cases, the offenders can have long track records of genuine accomplishments. But their bad deeds outweigh the good. They lose all public trust and their lives are ruined.
Yet their expertise is retained. Jailed priests still know the bible. Disbarred lawyers still know the law, etc. But their expertise becomes pretty much useless.
If Willis collapses under the weight of her said bad acts, the GA election interference RICO case that was expertly crafted will likely continue. Willis is not the case. The case will stand or fall, not on Willis's merits, but on the merits of the case itself.

"Snag" is putting it mildly. With a certain amount of corroboration having surfaced in Wade's divorce proceedings, Willis's allies are beginning to call on her to take a leave of absence or otherwise relinquish her role in this case. It remains to be seen that the full set of facts will be, but the more the facts emerge, the worse it looks for Willis. If the accusations (first made with no proof) are fully substantiated, Willis's career and the entire RICO case are in jeopardy.

"The Georgia judge overseeing Willis’s criminal election interference and racketeering case has scheduled an evidentiary hearing for Feb. 15 to address the motion to disqualify the DA and her special prosecutor. He has given Willis until Feb. 2 to file a response to Roman’s allegations.
The case is unlikely to be dismissed outright even if the allegations are proven true. But if a conflict of interest can be shown — if, for instance, Willis extended her investigation to benefit Wade financially — then Willis (and by extension, the entire Fulton County DA’s office) could be disqualified, forcing the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia to transfer the case to another DA’s office or to take charge itself." If Willis and her office are disqualified from the case, there is no requirement that the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of GA assign the case to any DA. They could choose to dismiss the case against Trump and all co-defendants. Or they could choose to continue the case by assigning it to another DA. Either way, Willis is rapidly losing the support of her friends as her apparent (monumental) conduct blunders come to light.

A couple terms come to mind regarding this case: “Garbage in, garbage out” and “Fruit of the poisonous tree.”
Neither item applies in this case. The case is well constructed. There is no garbage or poisonous fruit in the case itself. The case has already produced guilty pleas from four of the 19 original defendants. It has withstood numerous pretrial challenges. The case is solid. The prosecutor's professional behavior is the questionable item. Also note that the prosecutor did not indict Trump et al. The grand jury did.
This case can get along quite well if Willis somehow manages to keep her role (not optimal in my opinion), or another DA steps in to pick it up.
If Willis is dumped, the determining factor that decides whether this case continues forward is not the merits of the case. The merits are well-established. The determining factor will be the political will of the Georgia powers that be.

From the very start, this has been all about the "get Trump" strategy the Democrat party has put in play for 2024. But this case has been about Fani Willis, her career enhancement, and the financial gains she reaps through the kickback scheme she and her loverboy have concocted. She hired this guy without following required procedures, gave him a higher hourly rate than the other two more experienced prosecutors, and has since reaped material gains from the fees paid to him and his firm by her office. It's only a matter of time before we get to see their mug shots taken by the same jailhouse photographer who did Trump's.
Only four of the nineteen defendants have entered pleas - the other 15 are still contesting. One thing in particular that has been mentioned but not discussed much is the two trips Wade took to DC to meet with White House staff regarding the Trump case. Were they were coordinating this prosecution with Biden's staff or people from Jack Smith's office? This "massive racketeering case" may be starting to shrink in scope, and another prosecutor may not share Willis's enthusiasm.
"The Georgia courts have established that a district attorney should be disqualified when there is a personal interest in the defendant’s conviction (Whitworth v. State, 275 Ga. App. 790, 793, 622 S.E.2d 21 [2005]). In this instance, Willis has staked much of her career on this case and appointed a prosecutor who’s alleged to be romantically involved with her; likewise, if the allegations are true, Willis may have an interest in furthering Wade’s career and benefits. Of course, Trump, the other defendants, and the public are entitled to disinterested prosecutors in this major case.
Moreover, the Fulton County Code of Laws § 2-66 bars conflicts of interest “in fact and in appearance.” It expressly states that no “officer or employee shall, by his or her conduct, give reasonable basis for the impression that any person can improperly influence him or her, or unduly enjoy his or her favor, in the performance of any official acts or actions.” These provisions are in addition to prohibitions on the receipt of gifts due to one’s office, such as possibly receiving alleged lavish vacations paid for by your subordinate.
These are just some of the grounds supporting a motion by Michael Roman, one of the defendants in the massive racketeering case brought by Willis.
If these allegations are true, Willis is not just outside of the ethical navigational beacons. She is off the map."
