That is true but not for the reason you think, when we head into the next depression, nobody will be able to afford gas so the price will drop.
Oil companies are not going to "drill baby drill", why spend big bucks to end up lowering your margins? The CEOs are going to do what they always do, make decisions according to what will put the most money in THEIR pockets, they could care less what the person who lives paycheck to paycheck thinks when they fill up their vehicle.
