More likely, the guy simply retired. He reached his retirement date and retired.
I don't know a lot of cops but do know some. A remarkable thing about them is every one of them knows their retirement date. It's an interesting thing about them that, even among the younger ones, their retirement date is on their mind.
This Secret Service guy, issued a statement that specifically states he is retiring now that he reached the ability to do so. I see no reason to not accept that at face value. While a lot of self-employed people keep working as they grow older, very few employees do.
I suppose someone could do some research to determine how many Secret Service employees continue working past their retirement date to see if there is anything unusual about this guy retiring on or near his retirement date. It won't be me doing that research. I'm accepting his statement at face value. It seems foolish to make up stories about this that are not there.
Since the DOJ filing was made late last night, I have not yet read it or listened to the news reports and commentator analysis about it. Also, Trump's response is due today (Wednesday) and a hearing on this matter is scheduled for Tursday. I think I'll wait until Friday or the weekend to review all of this. It will take that long for this part of the Mar-a-Lago search story to more fully develop.
I do note the alternative facts/denial arguments being quickly made in this forum. It wasn't really a classified document, it was a secret my-pillow discount. It wasn't really obstruction of justice, because the crimes were non-crimes.
This is like saying I'm not really wet from the rain because it's non-rain.
The problem with alternative-facts arguments like these is objective truth exists. The truth is this is a real investigation, being conducted by a real DOJ, naming real crimes, conducting real searches in which real people are going into the real Mar-a-Lago, gathering real evidence and developing a real case.
You can deny this reality all you want, just like you can deny the rain. But it's still raining and people are still getting wet.
