Hmmmm ..... must come from being corn-fed middle America folk

"A new NBC/Marist poll released yesterday indicates that Republican primary candidate Ron Paul, who has not been considered a frontrunner in national polls, is the only GOP contender to tie President Obama among Iowans in a hypothetical 2012 general election matchup. Paul and Obama each earned 42 percent of the vote, with 16 percent undecided. Obama edged out all other Republican candidates, including Herman Cain who recently suspended his campaign, by margins ranging from 7 (Romney) to 23 (Bachmann) points."

It's hard to believe anyone could support a candidate who says another country [Iran] has no right to nuclear weapons, [that's our decision to make?!] and he would order all kinds of disruptive actions 'with deniability' to interfere in their affairs.
Because we've managed our own so well, right?

It appears The Lizard™ is making his surprise move to lock up the Iowa caucuses early, reinforcing his ground game by building up his Iowa organization with key personnel ..... oh .... wait .... never mind:

Gingrich's Iowa political director resigns for Mormon smear

Please be advised that you are witnessing pure, raw Newtonian Genius™ at work here .... a man of keen insight, and penetrating discernment, who like Hermain Cain knows how to recruit the correct "experts" for the job ....

..... we are so not worthy .....

That would also be the position of the current administration.
Obama has been against them on this since he has been in there.

It's a wrongheaded position, IMO. Every country has the same rights as we do, whether we 'like' them or trust them or not.
The sheer hubris of assuming that WE know what's best is an expensive mistake - and our leaders have already made way too many of those.
It's more than the $ that upsets me, though - it's the careless wasting of our single greatest resource: people. Mostly young [potential] but some a bit older [experience.] and the loss is a manmade calamity bigger than any headline screaming hurricane.
We need all the intelligence & creativity & imaginative invention we can get, and we just throw it away - it boggles the mind.

Back to the original subject matter, Tony Blankley has finally written an article that outlines the accomplishments during his tenure in the House.

BLANKLEY: Newt’s past and future leadership

By Tony Blankley - The Washington Times

...Thus, Mr. Romney received the endorsement of the GOP political types - congressmen and former congressmen. Now they are doubling down on their early bet and are out telling reporters that Newt was never much of a leader and never got much done.
Curious. I remember most of them enthusiastically following his leadership year after year as Republican whip from 1989 to 1994. It was the most successful congressional opposition movement since Benjamin Disraeli formed the modern Conservative Party in Britain in the mid-19th century. And after the GOP took back the House for the first time in 40 years (and the Senate, too, by the way), Newt’s four years as speaker proved to be the most productive, legislative congressional years since at least 1965 to 67, and they were led by Lyndon B. Johnson from the White House. Working against - and with - Democratic President Bill Clinton, we passed into law most of the Contract With America, welfare reform, telecommunications reform (which ushered in the modern cellphone and Internet age) and the first balanced budget since before the Vietnam War, and we cut taxes and lowered unemployment to less than 5 percent...

I admit Newt’s methods were not orthodox. He modified the seniority committee chairman system and picked the best members for the key posts. More than a few feathers got ruffled.

One of his key insights was to recognize that the two-dozen Northeastern moderates and liberals in the GOP caucus held the balance of power - we didn’t have 218 safe conservative votes in the House. Newt needed to prevent them from playing off the GOP against the Democrats (which is what such a faction in any congressional party normally tries to do), but rather feel fundamental loyalty and value in sticking with the GOP working majority. To do that, they had to get some of the provisions that they wanted in bills often enough that they would stick with conservatives on other issues.

For the entire article:

When we see Gingrich regularly being trashed by the inside-the-beltway elitists (like George Will), plus members of Congress - with its disapproval rating of 82.5% - it's not hard to understand why the Republican voters that favor him in the polls are turning their sympathies in the opposite direction.

I believe the reason that these elitists are hammering on him now, is so the truth about him will be allowed to ferment in case he wins the nomination. Obama will be able to tear apart Newt on the subject of morality - which is ironic, coming from a Chicago politician.

Whatever the motivation is, the relevant fact that remains is that Newt is unelectable against Obama - completely aside from any question of whether he is competent ..... or even sane, he is an incredibly divisive figure - utterly repugnant to many conservative-leaning Democrats and Independents.

Moreover, his own actions thus far give some insight into his incompetence (and possibly his earnestness) in terms of pursuing the nomination. He's destined to be only the most recent joke out of the GOP - great way to build a brand

The various constituencies within the Republican party (neocons, evangelicals, whatever) can dream all day long, with forlorn mist in their eyes, of a Newt candidacy which will "take it to Obama" ..... but the fact remains: he is unelectable in the general election.

He polls similar to Rick Perry when matched up against Obama - and that ought to tell ya something:

Newt Gingrich wouldn't beat Obama in 2012, new poll shows

The likelihood of this changing as the campaign progresses is next to nil - for one thing, Obama just isn't that stupid and undisciplined.

For another, Newt is.

Anyone thinking that this election is going to be won by holding up The Lizard™'s "brand" of (so-called) "conservatism" ..... as an appeal to those whose support will be vital to winning this election ...... is just whistling past the political graveyard.

Newt is like a Zombie - he's the undead of the Republican party ..... be very careful that he doesn't eat your brain:

What I see from Gingrinch is an extreme opportunist, who sold his soul to the devil. Oh... that would be most politicians.

Seeing his interviews lately, I've thought he looks like...
