The two yellow trucks pictured below are expediters. Is this the future of expediting? Yes or no? Why or why not?

Quite possibly! A friend has recently started with a company running that has these type of trucks...they are under cdl so no HOS to worry about and so far our friend has been quite busy. It's very possible he will make more money than us on average so if the company is making money and the driver is making money....

We've spoken to several drivers that run these and they are staying busy, I just think they should be running door badges and dot numbers,

10 mpg is a hard way to make money. Just running miles doesn't mean your making money.

Very true....I'm seeing them more and more so between that and the info I'm getting from our friend I'm assuming it must be profitable. Though you know what they say about assumptions!!

Hard to believe that this is the future. With 10-12 mpg mixed with the fuel price, they're not gonna make more money than a cv...

Maybe the lure is the sleeper? I would imagine the sleeper built into the box is roomier...I can't remember the load capacity.

Being under CDl does not mean they are rated under 10,000 pounds, the trigger for logging.

And I'm going to bet, since they are dual rear wheels, they are not rated under 10, 000 pounds.

If they are their legal capacity is small. Most i see have no sleeper in them just bare bones. I am guessing they often run heavy.

I believe he is pushing 14 mpg, but I still hold to the opinion that if they run loads out of there home state they need to be badged like other cv 's dot numbers etc? The future no I don't believe so...

I have seen many down in laredo, and talked with a few of them. All that I talked to were getting 10 mpg, and running for lower rates than I am. Some of them run overweight, and some got pulled over, weighed and ticketed. I don't see them staying in business for long. The problem is, if one goes out of business, there is another one jumping in.

Most i have spoke with are Russian polish and things like that. I would find it hard to believe 14 mpg in one especially after the rented years. I drove someone's cube like that for a few weeks that was almost new not a rental fleet one. Mpg ranged from 9 to 11.

My experience with the yellow cubes is that they were driven by Russians. Bottom line, they are in your face and taking loads. The lure of free enterprise, the thrill of it all. PS, if you are an owner/operator and you just bought a new Sprinter at 45,000 bucks, don't you think that 14mpg yellow truck is more profitable than your 1000 dollars a month payment on that Sprinter, plus your overhead will be a ton for sometime to come.

But life goes on, ps, I would rather have the Sprinter.

When I started we didn't have them things around hardly at all...nor did we have what seems like 5,000 multi carrier outfits....all is causing this downward pressure on rates....for us that want to make a reasonable living at this and not have to be out on the road 24/7/365.....

What realy piszes me off when I see those is.
1 No authority
2 No insurance
3 Not runing legal
4 Im willing to bet money there is no sleeper
And worst yet if they are plain jane they can run as if a personal use vehical. 30 hour day is likely.
Its only a matter of time before these morrons cause enough wrecks or dammage freight that FMCSA will regulate the vans as well. We can thank U ship and Shipping wars for stripping the legitimacy of the expedited and spec com industry.

At least add them to the top of the long list of those who drive our rates down.

Just about every one of them list their capacity to be at least 4,500 lbs. up to 6,500 lbs. I can see them on the load boards when we are parked near them. I see the size of the box and the "capacity". These lawbreakers are trying to sneak under the radar, often listing "UNDER 10,000 GVW on their door, even thoough they are not. With the load capacity they list, clearly they are not under 10,000 GVW. The DOT should pull every one of these nuts over every time they see them. They are just stealing loads from legal straights and vans.

unfortunately the very same carriers we run with will use these low lifes to suit their needs....and then wonder why the rates are in the tank....the Alliance should have a standard of quality but it wouldn't be to their advantage to do so.....the Alliance has really gone to it's lowest level.....even lower then NLM if that is possible...IMO of course....
