Man can do a LOT of damage. Just look at SE Michigan and ALL of Ohio. The loss of wet lands is causing ALL kinds of damage and problems and it is 100% a man made problem. The area around where you and I live have lost in excess of 99% of our wetlands. There is just NO NEED for that.

I am NOT a raving "greenie weenie" but I can see what is going on. I can see the affects, most of which are NOT good, that unwise development and industrial practices are causing great harm to untold numbers of species and MAN as well.

Yes, I believe that God gifted us with this planet. I don't believe we can destroy the planet itself. I DO believe we can, and are, harming it and destroying entire species for no good reason. I cannot believe that God is happy with that.

When did I ever say different? I believe that it is entirely possible to restore wetlands, improve farming, have a LOT of industry and jobs, AND do it all at the same time. This is the United States, we can do ANYTHING that we put our minds to. There is NO need to extinct ANY species for jobs. There are better ways.

The problem is that everyone wants everything fixed in 10 minutes. It took hundreds of years to mess things up. It will take a LONG time to fix. The FIXING process can create jobs. We just need to find a way to MAKE money at it.

I was not refuting you at all Joe....I agree..we can turn this around....but money talks...IF there was big money to be made I bet the turnaround time would be a lot quicker...

We CAN make big money at it. There is ALWAYS a way. We need to be looking at MUCH farther down the road. LONG TERM investment now, can pay HUGH dividends later.

Yeah there can be big money in hunting and fishing camps and the whole recreation scene...I mean Michigan has it all....since no industrial jobs are in the future.....why not take advantage of the natural landscape?

Yes, that is part of it. There can also be BIG industry WITHOUT the mess. Canada has to do the same things. They are just as responsible for the mess in the Great Lakes as the US is. Without Canada getting on board not much can get done. I don't see them doing much right now. Not that we are.

It has started in "small" ways. Back in the late 50's the Michigan Duck Hunters Association went up and down the banks of the Detroit River collecting the bodies of dead ducks. They collected enough bodies of dead birds, killed by chemical pollution, to fill two 5 ton dump trucks. They took those bird to the capitol in Lansing and dumped them on the steps. The clean up started then. We need MORE of that kind of "action" .

There is LOT of work being done, just not even close to enough.

There is far too much "noise" from the "greenie weenies" and that is really hurting the efforts of real people to fix things. The "Green" movement has little credibility. They have been crying wolf for far too long. They REFUSE to talk about all the progress that has been made. They REFUSE to talk about how much things have IMPROVED over the last 40 years. So no one listens. Far too many, because of the "bias and bull" from the "green bunch" ignore things that are legit and COULD be fixed.

Boys, boys ...calm down :p

Do you realise all you have posted about is USA .... USA is not the planet y'know.

There are bigger problems out there than, and I'm not belittling the problem here, invasive fish.

Dennis - I do not want to tread on religious toes here - but to say it is arrogant that man thinks it can destroy the world is in itself arrogant (IMO)

With the nuclear arsenals out there it wouldn't take much now would it.

Nuclear testing .... do we really know what damage we are doing to the Earth (as in Planet Earth)?

Aids is another example.

IMO I think we can wipe ourselves and the planet out quite easily - thank goodness that these Countries have come together to at least try and do something so that there will be a world for future generations to stand on.

I have NO control over any other country. WE need to fix our house in a responsible manner. The rest of the world is doing almost NOTHING.

We are NOT testing nukes here. Have not done so for YEARS. We have been working for more than 40 years to reduce the number of nukes.

AIDS is NOT man made. Spread by man, mainly through bad behavior, but NOT man made.

There are not really any BIG problems. Just LOTS of little ones. The reason that little is being done is that we are NOT fixing things that are PROVEN to be wrong, like invasive fish, and making up problems like man made "global warming" which cannot be proven.

Cleaning up your back yard, is the answer. There is NO such thing now, nor will there ever be, a "Global Answer" That implies that "Government" is the answer, rather than the cause of the problems, which it is. Government cannot NOT fix this.

Well God gave us the right to make our own choices, the right to chose right and wrong...IF we chose wrong...well that is good fortune or demise.... The dinosaurs went extinct..and the dinosaurs had no choice either...Mother earth made that choice....We might be earmarked next no matter what we do..and there is nothing we can do about it...

Don't think "Mother Earth" cause the dino's to go extinct. I think that rock from space that plowed into "Mother Earth" caused that.

Which created earth ,wind and fire....hence the ice age...

Could very well happen to us....all this crap here on earth would be for nothing in the big picture of life in the universe...we are but an insignificient speck...

And that is exactly what this organisation is - each Country doing there part in their own Country.
What most of us do "in our own backyard", as one example, is recycling.
What the Governments are doing is on a larger scale for example reducing emissions.

Whether you realise it or not the USA is doing their part and, as shown last night is number 61 out of 163 in the Countries standings as of 2010.

I don't think in any of my posts I mentioned that the problems are man made.

Again I was giving an example of what is happening in the world not the USA, in reference to Nuclear testing.

There have been several ice ages, not all caused by space rocks. There was once a period when the entire surface of the earth was frozen. There have been times when there were NO glaciers etc.

The only thing that does NOT change is the fact the every thing always changes.

We need to clean things up to improve how we live now. If we get creamed by a rock, nothing matters. At least I would not have a truck payment then.
