the best WOM might have is TOW chains.....LOL
Not needed now, BOOKED from Portland to San Francisco - better weather.

I'll check on chain rules. This was just above 3000 ft and nobody had chains, including the 3 idiots that went off the road

Just stop by a tire place and pick up a set. About $50. Better than the alternative. Also weather up in the mountains changes fast and chain up appear out of nowhere. In other words you might just need them.

You must have been asleep when you stopped at Exit 745- that's Weed. They sell lots of 60's related stuff (tie dyed shirts, etc), but I've been told the town fathers are kinda narc-y when it comes to actual marijuana. Believe it or not, that part of California is very conservative

Research:
Oregon's chain law applies to all highways throughout the state. ... Traction tires may be used in place of chains on vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight or less and that are not towing or being towed. Studded tires are legal in Oregon from November 1 through March 31.

BUT
www.odotmovingahead.com

Another section says
There are 3 message sign that will flash:
Chains Required-Traction Tires Allowed on Vehicles Under 10,000 GVW

Vehicles towing or rated for 10,000 pounds GVW must use chains. Vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds GVW or less and that are not towing must use chains or traction tires.
