Home sweet home!

In California after 3 months in the the east and midwest:)

United Airlines only charged 0.10/mile to ship me, and you guys are complaining about the under bidding, lol.

Hopefully after 850 miles of DH I can find a load. Was Montana a mistake or just an extravagance? I love being out West, but the West doesn't always love me.

Flying J, Avoca IA.

Over time I talked to a few of these folks and not once have I found anyone to say they would do something different in trucking..Most seem happy at it. Have had many say all costs are included up front. I also wonder what it would take to break into that market.

I've got a friend who has been bouncing around out there in that area for a week and a half now...trying to get a load....While the temptation of going out there may be hard to resist, the financial loss of being out there would kill that temptation eventually. Laredo or El Paso may be one thing, but other than that, I stay east of 35 when possible.

I am not calling you or the people you talked to in the truck stop a liar, but how many times have you had another expeditor come up to you and maybe ask the question....."Are you making any money???"...lol...Every one has their own way of answering.....I will usually just say that I am content and leave it at that....eventually, their story may start and be that of strong praise for their company, and the huge amount of miles they are getting .....(I tend to look at success in money, with as little amount of miles run as possible to make that money) Anyway,as time goes on, how often has that story changed to one of un-happiness instead of where it originally started as? I'm sure we all have seen or heard it before....

So, what I am getting at here, how solid is you're source? Just a fuel pump conversation? Ya see what I am saying?..

Just a few thoughts....once you are done "Escorting" a wide load to it's destination, what now? Who finds you the next load, etc to escort?....How long of a wait on average before you pick up you're next job? The vehicle you choose to use? How long before it breaks down?, etc.....The questions are endless....

Just like the camper hauling industry.....Spend close to 50 grand or over for a pickup....thus generating a CPM of around what, 45 CPM? And once you deliver you're camper, than what? Backhauls? Maybe a few, but I bet empty miles are over 50%....

Even though the sitting is starting to drive me crazy in this industry, and it is changing at such a rapid pace for the worst, I think I'll ride the storm out for a few more years....

Just a few thoughts....

D/H back to Dayton, OH from wytheville, va...Prob could have stayed, but 350 miles to be home and watch exhibition college basketball game was too much to resist.
