Just a few thoughts....

You are 100% exactly correct, Guido, or whatever your name really is.
It comes down to how much does the truck make on average for ALL miles & how many miles does the truck get on average per week/rodeo/month/etc. However you measure it.
Everyone has a different tolerance level. Me? I couldn't bear to sit, almost at all. But I was a "spoiled" driver. Not with comforts, but with rate "to the truck".
No one likes the long DH home. It's an "all mile average" killer!!! We all know that.
But at the end of the day/week/rodeo/month, if you can't look at your carrier's name or logo & say THOSE guys do everything they can to make me money..............

I'm not speaking of any carrier in particular, especially not Load-1. God knows John spends millions on sales, marketing, networking, personnel & promotions!!
Millions!!! No one should think any less. And I applaud him for that!!

But it's the rest of us "common folk" that need to make sure that the effort the driver is making (you) is matched by the effort the carrier is making.
That is all. :)

D/H back to Dayton, OH from wytheville, va...Prob could have stayed, but 350 miles to be home and watch exhibition college basketball game was too much to resist.

I can't believe you're out of Dayton and we haven't met up yet!!
Bunker's? Where? Name it. LOL!!

and the fact that John aka Load 1 actually PAYS us to sit for 48 hrs after we POD out.....IF in a bad area or fringe area I'll use a portion of that in the tank and move a few miles...which is technically a paid move...

I list that layover pay in a separate column....Dave aka Guido adds it into his "all mile rate" which I believe inflates that number to look good.....BUT for comparison reasons its artifical as NO ONE else in the business can do this or gets this bonus....thats just my thoughts on that accounting thingee....

Pros and cons both ways. $50 buys a lot of hot dogs!!

So, what I am getting at here, how solid is you're source? Just a fuel pump conversation? Ya see what I am saying?.

The few I have talked to in length have been couples and also company drivers. Any in depth conversations have been on job sites and have been told they stick with a few trucking company's ( freinds &,family ) and are paid all miles with all expenses paid most of the time. And at times will load onto the flatbed for the return trip.I'm sure as any of us know they can get burned. One way freight for them is consistent so they bid it that way. Difference with them is they know it, where we assume everywhere a carrier sends us we will get a load. But your correct as anywhere some will sugar coat a conversation.

As far as the uship transporters.. I have a personell friend ( a previous van driver I had ) went out on his own, He hooked up with a few trailer builders and other drivers on the west coast and swaps loads half way.. He uses uship only as a last resort and bids it high.. He is actually doing better then my straight truck. He is also picking up occasional van loads for every major carrier out here, including the one I am with. In just over a year now he has paid off a new van in full and currently looking to switch over to a dually..

I believe all monies made should be figured into the all mile pay formula. If not, where would you put that money at?. Since our income is mostly generated by the miles we drive in a sense.Regardless, layover pay is minimal, but appreciated in my book. Gold rewards money I do not fugure into the pay for all miles.

Minimal?....for as much as we sit.....it accounts for over 10% of our yearly income right now....

I do not add the layover pay to make my all mile pay look good. The fact that I do not drive all over the place, trying to be first out, driving less miles overall makes my all mile pay look good.

Everyone has their own ways of doing things. Mine works for me, and you bouncing all over works for you....lol....add that wear and tear to that $printer!!! lol... Right now, my all mile pay year to date averages out to $1.11..not bad by any means...

Under load? Forgive me for being jealous. Philadelphia is not only a mere hour past my house, it is the city I think of as home :)
