Been sitting since Fri morning. Got an em, see you all for coffee around 930 or 10.
Cheri, depends on what all is running, decharging and recharging is a good way to kill batteries. What kind of apu, gas or diesel.
That much I know [thanks to Turtle's novellas on the subject, lol] but what I don't know is whether it's ok to let the voltmeter get down to 12.4ish before restarting the APU. When it's off, the only powersucker is the fridge, as the inverter & Fantastic Fan draw it down very little. It's usually good for approx 4 hrs off, so I've been running it for 6 on [to recharge batteries], then 2 off [to reduce engine hrs by a third.] It's a diesel Proheat, and I want it to last as long as possible. Are the frequent startups counterproductive? I remember hearing truckers say they let the engine run because it is/was better for diesel engines than cranking them - is that a myth? Or old school?
Cheri, I think my APU is similar to yours. There's a pic of the controls below.
I run mine when I have the inverter on, watching tv, running the microwave, and of course for heat or a/c. I only shut it off when I'm done with the above and it's comfortable enough outside not to need the heat or a/c.
The battery icon you see on the pic indicates that the battery minder is on. I have it set at 11 volts. When the battery voltage drops to that, the APU will start to recharge them.
The APU has 17,787 hours on it and I haven't lost a battery yet.
