Trust me id love to be running those 1200+ mile runs...1000 per day is feasible in my book but at our contracted rate they either go to xpo teams or low balled by other carriers

Nature of the business lately, unfortunately.
Locations, capacity, demand for that particular load, etc all play into possibilities to get something.

"whale" in my book is anything over 1200 miles. Anything under is a day work.
But then again, I am too young to think of rest.

I can tell you a story about Express1 and It looks things never really change...

I was sitting once with the Late Great Jack Berry and his wife Gracey one day..they had just emptied out it was a Friday and kind of slow.....I was supposed to be #1 and had been for 2 days....I had told him how E1 favours teams and loads them quicker and he couldn't believe it....so anyhow....he gets the "Call" ..845 miles to Nashville for a Monday delivery.....he looked at me and said...this isn't a team run...you can do this over a weekend....to which I said..there ya go proof in the pudding!

Steady Eddie can tell ya the time JuJu and I got out of Olive Branch ahead of him on the same kind of deal...

The other advantage is after I deliver, if I don't get another I am 70 miles from the house. Doesn't pay as well but costs less than being on the road...definitely in the mood for a whale...800+ miles would be very much welcome but not holding my breath.

Not just that.
Once I was sitting with another driver in KY.
I wanted to go home, MA.
He needed to go to NC.
I was offered a run to TN or GA, he was told to go to PA. We asked if we could swap. Were told no, and they scrapped both runs.

I once had a load from El Paso to San Diego.
You would think they save some money shipping it South of the border, but there I was taking Mexican load to California.

Met a guy once in El Paso.
He owned several textile factories in Northern US. Said that due to free-trade and agreements, in order to compete with Asian manufacturers he was forced to relocate his business to Mexico. Can't blame him.
Wonder what he is up to now, with current political shift.
