A "processing fee" or "admin charge" is BULL crap..IMO

It is just a cash grab at best.....all admin and running authorities should be the responsibility of the carrier and supposed to be in the money they keep from each load...This is just bonus bucks for them...

E-1 will take their..."Processing fee" in the first of the year..$150...

I know what you are saying, but it is what it is..nothing I can do about it, either accept it or move on, as with many things with many carriers.Sure, it is frustrating, being close to the holidays, but it is in the contract, so it is not like it is something that was just thought up, either.I just make the best of it.

I understand..I signed on the line too..knowing it was in there..

one of them warts...

But was there any offsetting circumstances? you could justify accepting the lousey terms? Like Safe Driving reward with cash to offset the "FEE"

BTW..There was something we could have done....

NOT sign up......

Is this just a fee when one first starts out or is it a reoccurring annual charge?

I rationalized it.... as we got free Tripak envelopes and there was no additional expense in submitting the BOL's....

Dave..It is an annual fee...every year...

Ummm??? I think I would agree that should be a component in the percentage they pull from every load unless of of course they pay 85 percent or better of the total revenue.
Kinda falls into that "Standardized Fuel Surcharge" category.
Code words "you aren't going to get 100 percent of it".
If using that theory, you will have to charge them for typing a message back on their QC. :D
Your right, nothing short of a cash grab.

After all these years doing this....I am amazed at the different ways carriers present themselves and the "unique" ways they have to get our money...

That is just so true.

Carrier we used to run for, who shall remain nameless , charges for pulling your truck from them, disguising it as a QC issue

It makes you feel like you are paying them to work for them (if that makes sense )

I could understand them doing it when you first sign on, but what is the justification for continuing to charge it year after year? Are the truck owners expected to pay for the operating costs of the company? What are you getting for your money?

The best way to put a stop to these types of charges is to refuse to sign the contract and find a more reputable company to contract with.

I would not contract with any company that had those types of fees in there contract.

You should get free Tripak and there should be no expense on your part to submit the BOL. The company you are contracted with needs those BOL's so that they can bill the paying party.
Why should it cost you anything to get it to them?

I believe if you check your Ford Motor Co. history. Henry Ford gave his employees a raise so they could afford the product they were producing.:D

Not exactly true.

Old man Ford had a fight with a few of this execs when this was proposed - he didn't like it at all, even after months of it. It was a solution to a problem Ford had since 1913. The problem wasn't anything about affording the car they build but rather keeping turnover low. It was horrible, in 1913 and 1914 the turnover rate was higher at Ford than most of the competitors combined. The assembly line burned out people at a higher rate than replacements could fill the empty slots. When you went to work at Ford in 1914, you didn't even have to have a skill, they taught you the single job you did and that was it - you did the same thing all the time and your chance of moving was less than if you had been at another plant. The idea was an incentive by moving one up in pay quicker than would have happened. The $5 a day pay hike was not given to everyone, it was limited to those who worked (I think) there for more than a year and didn't have 'issues'. The other companies, especially GM and Dodge were p*ssed off at Ford because this raises their costs through competing for labor. THIS was the start of nation's labor middle class, some 20 years before the unions.

But not their shorts!!

About the obsession over 'the shorts': the only guys I've ever known who were THAT interested in another guy's shorts were [not so] secretly interested in what's under those shorts, ok?
Not that there's anything wrong with that - somebody wants to 'come out of the closet', he's among friends here...
Just sayin...;)

PS apologies to OVM, who is blameless, but who will [pleeeeze!] in future stick to plain solid colored clothing, at least around the excitable dudes.

OVM is extra security when he's parked at the Load 1 yard. We have secret instructions from John that if OVM is there and we see anything suspicious we're to grab the shorts and throw them into the middle of the lot. Since the shorts light up the whole lot, you're able to see everything.

The only thing John wasn't clear on was what to do if OVM is wearing the shorts. For my part, I'll just throw OVM and the shorts in the lot.

Wait, I don't think I was supposed to make this policy public.

SHHHH!!! Don't tell Ken.;)

Can someone tell me what is Load 1's heaviest traffic lanes for CV's. Just curious to know what gives. I'm thinking there is a bit to much positive thinking for an Expedite Co. If they are so good why are they looking for trucks?
This question is from a trucker with 40years of trucking of which 5 were expedite. I retired now getting back with a CV and shopping for a carrier. Every ones got the same speech, you all heard it.
So tell me the real story about this Company.

He could actually be wearing those shorts today..guess it's a might warmer in Eagle Pass..but as you very well know...all roads lead back to Michigan!!!:)

I'm sure the Texans will appreciate the show. As for MI, I used to hate going to Detroit. Now it feels like a second home.
