Living in a Politically Correct World.

I don't see it as a "how I live" question. No one likes to be looked upon as being racist, intolerant, etc. You cannot go through this life without interacting with others and it would seem that more and more, you cannot converse about anything without these accusations coming up.

All of this pales in comparison to what I wrote above about the safety of our society as a whole. It's inexusable, IMHO, when people's lives are at stake because of someone's, anyone's political ideology.

I've just never had these things come up in day to day conversation. Or I live in a fog :p

Now wait a minute.....you're here, aren't ya? :p Can you not think back to a thread or two you've read here where someone tried to express their opinion and someone else came along and called them a racist, etc.?

Yeah but I don't look at messageboards as the real world.

I got called a racist for admitting I voted Republican lol! I pointed out that my multi-cultural family was gonna be real surprised at that!

Amazing how people draw conclusions.

Diva: has the intolerance you refer to occurred outside the Soapbox? I don't think so, which is what Scott means: it doesn't happen in everyday conversation. It happens when people proclaim themselves [to the public at large] as part of a particular group - when you do that, you're inviting comments, and they won't all be agreeable.
I've been saying it for awhile, though: the US is becoming more deeply divided, because of political ideology - we don't seem to be looking for ways to meet in the middle, which is the only way to approach a divide. Unless you subscribe to the 'might makes right' theory, which I don't.

PS I totally agree that profiling is a useful tactic, and I said so way back when they told LEOs to stop doing it. Experienced people learn to 'trust their gut', and they should be encouraged to do so, IMO.

But Cheri, isnt it funny, if someone proclaims themself gay, athiest, whatever....... thats all good... and if you disagree... you're attacking. But, my point was, if I proudly proclaim any of the things in my original post, I'm fair game?

Why is that? Seems to me everyone else's "right" to be different is protected.... but my right to be what used to be considered "normal" is not.

Not that I'm a "normal" example of any of those things lol.

Proud (and pride) can be a funny thing. It's only relatively recently been linked to self-esteem, but it's origins come from prȳde (cognate with prȳthi) and a derivative of prūd, which means, essentially, a pompous and stately arrogance.

There's nothing wrong with being proud to be an American, or a Christian, or an old fart grandpa, as long as you aren't in-your-face pompous and arrogant about it.

Why does "Gay Pride" immediately come to mind as being in-your-face, pompous and arrogant?
Oh, that's right, because it is. <snort>

adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est
1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.
5. Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.

I was gonna say that I ain't stupid; then I got to #4. Game over.

I'm having trouble living in the world today. Everywhere, I see proclamations to be proud of who you are, to stand tall and shout "Here I am!"

I've been trying to find something I'm allowed to be proud of, yet every time I try to share, someone says I'm wrong to be proud of that.

If I say proud to be born American... then I have a narrow world view, and hate immigrants.

If you are a straight, white Christian male, happily married and a proud father with an intact family... you naturally feel a closer kinship with the GOP. I am not aware of even one bonafide conservative member of Congress who is affiliated with the Democrat Party. Over the last 30 years, conservatives were either purged from the Democrat Party or left on their own in utter disgust.

It isn't difficult to understand why the Democrat Party appeals to the more dysfunctional elements of American society. There is a Fifth Column working feverishly, night and day, to overwhelm and replace the traditional Christian values which built our nation. The Left despises traditional values such as a strong work ethic and self-reliance. Nothing would please the Left more than to strike God from his lofty perch. Obama and his legion of social deviants would have us worship Government instead. I can envision a day, in our life time, when there are literally two Americas. This nation cannot endure the trajectory of moral rot and economic collapse the Obama era has brought.

Is it too late to push the reset button? A separatist movement probably isn't more than one decade away.

It is going to happen pretty soon, a lot of people in my generation(I'm 31) have had enough already. I don't agree with him 100% but if you look at who is fueling the Ron Paul agenda it is made up of a lot of young people. My brothers and I were talking about it and we find it ironic that The Greatest Generation raised the worst generation and it looks like they raised a generation of people that can't wait to undo what they have done, its a cycle. I am not sure how it will happen but it will be done by force or through the polls.

Scientist have concluded that all this PC crap is the direct result of a mental disease that baffels them.they say although it is a mental disorder it seems to be breed into the millions of people that it affects.they have also said dispite years of trying they can not seem to come up with a cure. They say the only thing that seems to help is to slip a person surffing from this a couple of happy pills a day. They have named this disease "liberalism":D

If this is all about political ideology, why is it that conservatives don't fight back and don't use pc terms?

The other thing is I noticed that kids today don't care. They call it like it is and don't worry about people's feelings.

The same reason they won't state the truth about blacks being coddled and kept down by Democrats to bolster their power and vote counts. The truth would hurt them in other demographics, by looking like they're being mean and (duh nuh nuh) racist. But as Herman Cain showed, people are getting sick of this pc bs. He continually and unabashedly calls it what it is... the government plantation.
