Looks like the FJ is the new laredo expedite terminal.
I count 12 D units in the front lot alone.

This sucks!!!

Who is RJR and why do they have three brand new trucks down here. Big sleeper modeld too.

Guess them big sleeper models will have to wait for a toy truck load out. Course RJR Valesquez from Nuevo Laredo may own them and they'll be gone fore I quit typ'in. Who knows. Ask.

RJR has a recruiting ad here on EO. I have no firsthand knowledge about them other than they are from the Detroit area.

Don't know who but know that if you watch them like we did, you may see that they're often last in, first out, to us = hauling cheap freight!!

I was in Laredo a few weeks ago for the first time since the J and T/A opened. The extra parking is good although it was full to capacity. It took about 20 minutes to get out onto the frontage road though and that was with everyone (with one exception) playing nice and taking turns alternating 1 from each of the 3 lanes funneling trucks to the single exit.

That might be true? Don't know their rates, but several of the small companies are hauling auto frieght for $1.05 per mile.
I would consider that, cheap frieght!

On the subject of Laredo, I have wondered what will happen to that town and all the terminals there when Mexican and U.S. trucks become fully free to cross the border and drive deep into each other's countries.

Every time we have picked up or delivered in Laredo, it has been border transfer freight. What need will there be for those terminals if the trucks can drive straight through to the freight's destination?

It's real simple. The cross dock transfer places will shut down. Laredo will go to a small border town that pregnant Mexican females can use to have their baby thus making a new US citizen on ADC and whatever else they can find.

I for one don't think 1-2 or 4 skids of expedite is going onto a 53' Mexican trailer!! I don't think expedite has alot to worry about cept for maybe E units full loads.

But them OTR terminals maybe greatly downsized.

My mother was born in Dallas in 1922 to immigrants from Mexico looking for a better life. The family settled here in Ohio. NONE of the family was ever on ANY government support. My grandmother had 4 children involved in WWII, including my mother in the Navy. I lost an uncle over Amsterdam, he was a glider pilot.
My father's family emigrated here also, he and 2 of his brothers went to war.
My paternal uncle had several degrees - earned via the GI bill. There is a school named after him here in my home town.
I take great offense at what you have said.

I also was offended. Not because I am of Mexican descent, but because my simple question about the economic effect of the new trucking rules got used to voice a racist opinion.

At the bottom of this page, it says "Expediters Online.com reserves the right to remove offensive or inappropriate messages."

This would be a good time.

What offended me was the blatant implication that Mexican women cross the boarder only to drop a baby and to then go on public assitance. This is a blanket prejudgement based on ignorance. Makes me wonder what other prejudices the writer holds, based on ethnicity, race, national origin, religion/beliefs, appearancrs, etc.

Ok, I believe, and I may be wrong, that Rich meant illegal aliens coming across the border and having children that are then US citizens.
Illegal's are the problem, not the immigrants that come here legally.

Now back to Laredo, we haven't been down there in about 6 weeks and it wasn't that bad then. Maybe just a fluke?

Carl,

I would have been offended also....I think the whole immigration-border crossing-jobs moving out of this country has too many people jumping on the illegal bandwagon. But what do I know...I am just a drunken irish-indian.

Charlotte, you are my kinda person. But, i'm sure Carls family is/was some more honorable (ah the old days) than what we see today. I gotta believe there is a lot of what rich mentions going on.

Carl, thanks for the answer, I can't sit here and let this go but understand my reply is not meant to slam anyone specifically.

The problem with immigration is not really a problem, the problem with people standing up and saying the right thing is. and the reason it is a problem is illustrated right here by the responses.

We have a serious invasion going on and what Rich has said is neither racist nor untrue and equally has to do with many different people from many different countries, not just Mexico. I honestly think that Rich used a Mexican female as a metafor for all who do this - I admit which really is not the best or proper thing to do. It does happen that there is such a thing called an anchor babies, there is also people using Mexico to get here by breaking our laws - not just Mexicans. I know for a fact that one of the biggest problems we do have is increasing the welfare rolls in all the states by people who have come here and had a kid to ensure that they can stay. This happens with all different ethnic groups of people, like here in the Dearborn area, it is people from the middle east - by the way love to get handicap permits.

The biggest issue with the Mexicans are not the people themselves but their government and how they are promoting breaking our laws by providing the means to get here. They, the Mexican people are for the most part very hard working, respectable people who I can not really blame coming here.

My grand parents gave a up everything to get here and never returned to their homes. They were escaping worst things than just poverty, Fascism and serfdom (slavery) - real issues of having to do with real basic human rights issues. To me they took the legal hard path to get here, just like thousands of others who followed them to this day. It was their hard work that build this country, it gave others the chance to come here and prosper.

What you should be offended by is the term racist and how it is used, the idea that it is alright to cheapen the sacrifices of those who came here and later fought for this country as part of the country and the ignorant ideas that we need to just open everything up.

In truth it will take more dialog like this to get people to think about the real differences between legal immigration and an invasion, that not all immigrants are invaders and not to bash Mexicans.

"I also was offended. Not because I am of Mexican descent, but because my simple question about the economic effect of the new trucking rules got used to voice a racist opinion."

Phil,
Never mind.... it is not worth replying to that.

While the choice of wording was not optimal the situation described is happening many times a day every day of the year. There are huge numbers of legal immigrants, the vast majority of which have been here since or prior to WW2, who are great people. There are much more huge numbers of criminal aliens who have been here for no more than a quarter century maximum who have poisoned the well for everyone. Rather than being offended by a poorly worded statement of truth it would be well to take a moment to calmly read the intended meaning and then be offended by the criminals who have spawned such feelings and thinking.

Well Now I am offended. Anyone who knows me knows that I am far from being a racist and if my post somehow offended someone I apologize. The comment I made about females coming into the country to have a baby which then becomes a US citzen is a factual statement not a racist statement. It also goes on in the Caribbean where females come to the US Virgin Islands to give birth. As long as this is allowed to continue this practice will exist and why not. If I was poor individual from Hati or some other 3rd world country and if all I had to do was get my wife into the USA somehow so my child would have the opportunities that a citzen of our country has I would do it too.

I really resent being called a racist over a policy that many people in this country wish did not exist. I have nothing against any individual based on his race, color, religion or for that matter even sexual preference.
