your break is when you fuel up.....NO nap unless you have the time....make sure you'll not hit a rush hour before you consider a nap... 789 miles should have been for easy math call it 800 divide by 50....16 hrs...If you average 62 mph real time that is 12.9 hours...you have 3.1 hours , you'll need to fuel twice at 20 min stops= 40 min....you now have about 2.5 hours to allow for traffic conditions... make a sandwich on the go if you must...This isn't a casual drive down the road...this is expedite and that is logistics.....

Its 3 fill ups for me. I do break when I fuel up but most times I don't depends on the load or how long I drove. I sleep regardless if I have time or not cause the delivery time can change I can't change if I fall asleep and crash into something or someone. I had time this load for a hour nap I got a little tired so I took it felt better

I understand Chris....But unless there is time built into the run....or say arrival time is 3am and they don't open till 7am.....the only extra time you are allowed is the difference between your REAL TIME driving minus the 50 MPH time.....we are paid for DIRECT...

That is why we've been nudging John to add at least 15 minutes for loading...

Once we hit our arrive time the clock is ticking down already, right off we are behind....a 3pm PU time, then get loaded do the QC thing, program the GPS, secure freight ....minimum 15 minute ....

I do power naps as well.....when needed....

That is where vanning can get tough....we have the luxury of no logging and the benefits or distractions of such.....if customers wanted it there 10 hours later they'd probably use a straight instead of a 3 skid van....

Note: how company representation is noticeably absent in these kind of conversations?....LOL This is where transparency comes in...LMAO

I didn't see anybody asking for a 10 hr break. That's just a jab at me since I used to drive a straight truck and don't mind challenging this holier than thou position that your taking on the subject.

Chris was asking about the transit times getting shorter. I have no idea of what his actual transit time was. If he wasn't allowed a transit time of 50 mph, he should have been..simple as that. The 50 mph is tight enough. I think it's pretty obvious that most of us can handle it or we probably wouldn't be here.

Of course it was a jab at you...with no malice attached....buddy....;)yep...Fedex is 45 mph and I think Panther is 47 mph.... that 3 minutes whilst appearing small is HUGE.....over 6 hr span is 18 minutes which is a fuel stop......

On a side note....there has been times I felt shorted on the time...That is where Chris and Jaime come in.....call them and point out the shortage, they are very good at what they do...buy time...there is no need to struggle....communicate....it works....

this is all soo much BS...yes at the times to make deliveries can be short, but i have never felt that dispatch was beating the drum to get there...if i know the time isnt going to work, ill call and all is fine...Yea Chris will call from time to time, but even he is getting better at figuring we will make it on time or within a reasonable few minutes late...

As for getting a nap on a long run, 99% of the time, there is no problem...just ask yourself on a % base, are many times have you felt rushed or been late...very little i bet....

Like bananas, in bunches, the tight loads seem to come like that...I'll get 2 or 3 in a row where I am late even before I start...LOL but the last few I've had a ton of time.....

C&M used 45 mph for the straights and I'm told 50 mph for vans. Never understood the difference. Vans have to stop more often for fuel. Most runs, I never had to stop for fuel in my ST. That 5 mph makes a lot of difference, but honestly I think it just makes us feel better. I was always early for my delivery times at C&M and I'm always early here...just not by quite as much :D. I think we just like to see that extra time just in case there is a problem.

Communication is the key. I've always insisted on getting the correct amount of transit time even if I didn't feel like I needed it. You never know what your going to have to deal with before you get there.

One thing I learned a long time ago was to try to get it worked out with the dispatcher your working with at the time of pickup. Try to get them to note it in the computer. Once that person goes home for the night and the next shift takes over, all they know is what is in the computer. They will treat it like its written in stone..as they should. Can you imagine the lame BS stories they would hear if they relied on what we tell 'em? :D

There ya go, exactly, communicate.....

Sometimes dispatch will call and specifically say and ask....are you ready?....this load is 800 miles direct, are you up to it?....this is the point WE can either bail out and say no, I didn't sleep well last night...or take it knowing you are going to be running hard....

Not always. There are the lovely times when Chris finds in necessary to call every 45 minutes asking where you are and why you're not on time. Probably the exact same reason I wasn't when you called me last time.
