I do know one thing, it's a little lame (not to mention hypocritical) for someone to report a post as being "Threatening and Antagonizing" when the post is in response to their own threatening and antagonistic post. (I'd say you can't make this stuff up, but clearly, you can.) You wanna attack what someone said, fine, but don't attack them for saying it.

I don't know if RLENT is "man enough" (whatever that means) to hold a sign up with those words on it in front of a Troop Transport unloading a Battalion of Marines coming home from both Iraq & Afghanistan, but I have a feeling that the inquisitor isn't either. <snort>

I can tell you that I wouldn't do it, because it's rude, inconsiderate and mean, not to mention I'd probably get my butt kicked. By the same token, I seriously doubt that Mr. Soldier Feller up there would take his sign to the lunch line at the homeless shelter or the OWS at Zucotti Park and hold it up in front of everyone, because it's rude, inconsiderate and mean, not to mention he'd probably get his butt kicked.

There's an "elephant-in-the-room" kind of point regarding quote #1 that seems to be missing in this discussion. Not only is that post a collection of totally malicious nonsense from someone who knows nothing about service in the military, it's also EXTREMELY INSULTING to anyone who is a veteran of the armed forces or has sons or daughters who might be presently risking their lives in some squalid pesthole on the other side of the globe.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that someone would take offense to these snarky accusations, which ironically describe perfectly the islamic radicals whose goal is to destroy our way of life. But this isn't the first post of this nature - it's trolling, pure and simple, not a political statement.

Stuff like this doesn't have to be repeated too often before it gets a rise out of somebody on a conservative leaning forum. It's no secret that there are several members here - maybe more - that have sons, daughters or close relatives/friends in the military overseas. They might have a slight tendency to pause every time the phone rings or the doorbell chimes, wondering if there will be a military chaplain on the other side. Maybe they ought to get some slack for having trouble digesting inflammatory verbal potshots that have no basis in truth.

Intent was calling out a windbag that portrayed the same trait as the "Spitters" did upon the returning Vietnam Soldiers, as the ignorant protesters that disrupt the Funerals of our fallen Heroes of today, and so on.......

Interesting thing I read about those 'spitters': NO ONE ever heard of it happening until about 10 years after the last vet came home - and then, only as apocryphal stories [a friend of a friend] with zero documentation.
I know I certainly never heard anything about it happening in the 70's, and I knew quite a few guys who served in Vietnam.....

Thank you Pilgrim, for putting into words what I've struggled with most of the day.

As most of you know, I'm a mother of four, three that served in the military with one of those still serving. It makes me sick to look at these young people that so "proudly" live in tents, poop and pee on the ground and think that the rest of us owe them something. THAT'S why I posted that picture. My intention was not to get anyone stirred up, as a matter of fact, I was shocked and sickened by Rlent's response. Now I get the pleasure of watching someone who opposed his thought pattern, receiving their lecture because of how THEY posted their response. For someone that insults as much and as often as Rlent does, he sure doesn't get much flack for it, IMHO of course.

I wasn't going to respond to this but I've had enough. Brisco is correct in what he said about feeling like being spit on. My husband is a Vietnam Vet and having lived in that era, we both remember what that felt like.(and yes, it DID happen) Well, today, for the first time ever, I felt like someone was spitting on my kids and it made me furious. Realizing of course that just sharing that is like putting up a red flag for Rlent to lay more of his hate down.

Amazing that nothing is said to someone so hate filled that he would write that crap. What the heck is inside someone that they can spill venom that way? Didn't we just "celebrate" Veteran's Day a few days ago?

Well, I could go on and on but I won't. Wouldn't do anyone any good. So I'll end by saying this....

To Rlent and anyone that agrees with what he posted above.....you've spit on me as often as you could here but you're not going to spit on my kids. They and others like them served and are serving their country proudly so that you still have the freedom to spew your venom, even if it's at their Mom. They serve willingly.....and you aren't fit to wipe their boots.

My family and I are going through the same thing and when someone spews what they know nothing about they have no clue how close they come sometimes.Maybe its because their daddy did not hug them enough when they were a kid.

This isn't about you. Believe it or not, not everything is. It's not even about your sons. Just because someone wears a uniform doesn't necessarily make them a hero, any more than wearing one made them vile "baby killers" in Vietnam. Believe it or not, it's OK to criticize the military and those who are in it. They aren't gods to be revered unconditionally. A uniform doesn't give anyone a pass. This over-the-top fawning over "can't do anything wrong" military is nothing more than a collective nation trying to make amends for what it did during and after Vietnam. We were wrong then, and we're wrong now. Neither display is honest. Oh, it's honest for you, I'm sure, because you're intimately involved, but as a nation, it's a faςade.

It's OK to hammer liberals and OWS and anyone else, but the military is off-limits? I don't think so. The military is not perfect little saints fighting the good fight, and to pretend they are is asinine. They are fighting a religious and political war for the benefit of those in power. The pawns are being used well, indeed.

I, for one, would like to thank those in the military who work in purchasing at Fort Leavenworth. I can sleep soundly knowing they are on the job.

Let me see if I can make you understand. I made the original post and his post was in answer to what I posted, coupled with he and everyone else who's been here any amount of time knows that I have kids in the military. Maybe you should try and look at it from a different side of the fence and consider that what Pilgrim said just might be true. Maybe it really could have been intentional crap stirring.

You really think any & every criticism of the military is directed at your family members? I'm sorry, but it isn't, any more than criticism of police is insulting to my uncle [Cleveland PD Detective], or criticism of 'gold digging' women is insulting to me - I understand that generalizations don't apply to every single person, and you know it too.

We know there are good & bad in EVERY group of people, and it's unrealistic to pretend there aren't. Heck, there's even some pretty disgusting truck drivers! But we also know we aren't them, so it's something we want to work on improving, not deny it exists.
