Was going to start a new thread, but since it's what happened today, I'll post it here.
Got a lucrative load picking up in Saginaw at 4 going to Ft Wayne for 9. Perfect. My hours run out at 9, and I'll get it there early anyways. Just in case, I let dispatch know, when I left the house, that I'll be running this load close on hours.
Get to pu, and am told I'll be held for 2 hours. Immediately called dispatch to let them know, and was told they'll call to find out what the hold up is. Get a call back saying to take off, they have someone coming. Went in to let the shipping clerk know. She walks in and says it's ready, and that they'll be loading me shortly. Mind you, I still have over 4.5 hours to go 220 mi.
I call dispatch to let them know. I'm told someone is already on their way. I said, "When has that stopped anyone from calling a truck off a load?" I'm given over to dispatcher #2, who again tells me someone is already on their way; to which I repeated the above.
"You said you were out of hours."
"Never said that," I tell #2, "I said that if I had to wait the 2 hours to get loaded, I wouldn't have enough hours to get there."
"220 miles takes at least 5 hours. You won't have enough time."
"4 hours at most. I have plenty of time if they load me now."
"If I put that into the computer, a red warning <thingy> would come on saying it's too close.(first time I've ever heard of that) If anything happens on the way, you wouldn't be able to make it."
To which I stated, to the effect, "This is the first time I've EVER been taken off a run here because I MIGHT not make it. That's always been my call."
Well, #2 wouldn't budge. I can't help but remember the first load I took from #2, and let him know I would be close on hours.
"Do you want the run or not?" he replied. So, IMO, this is not the issue of being close on hours, or not.
I call BS on losing a $600+, 220 mile load to being "close" to "maybe" not making it in enough time, because #2 didn't want to reverse his decision.
Done venting.
