Garden Corner 2011

Speaking of digging up potatoes, there was a thief who was finally caught and put in prison. His wife was perplexed because she had been ill and wasn't up to manual labor like digging in the garden.

So she wrote to him, asking if it was time to harvest the potatoes. Knowing the prison guards read all his mail, he replied, "It's almost time to harvest the potatoes, but not quite. But be careful in the garden because that's where I hid the loot from my last bank job."

A few days later, he got another letter saying "Honey, police men showed up and dug up the garden!"

He replied "NOW it's time to harvest the potatoes."

Dang it! We were outside this evening finishing up some landsaping..and Ken found some more cukes to be pickled...I was hoping to get the salsa done first! So it looks like tomorrow will be a busy day...he's going to dig up the last row of Yukon Golds and I'll be picking and pickling!:p

and another 15 quarts of pickles this morning...making a total now of 62. Now I've got to make the hubby some chicken fried steak, mashed garlic potatoes, and fresh corn on the cob for all his hard work. And IF I have any oomph left...salsa this afternoon..:D

Eat good!:D

Well my gardening mate just left to go back on the road and I just went out and pulled a dishpan full of tomatoes..some almost ripe..some ripe. I think I'll let them set on the table overnight and start canning tomatoes tomorrow. And of course I found that one big cuke that I missed the other day.:)

AND I finished pulling all the corn and cut the stalks down..so that's the last of the corn, onions, yukon gold taters, shallots, peas and green beans. Got some teeny tiny little watermelons just starting and canteloupe is getting bigger. Lots of peppers and cukes and garlic and leeks and tomatoes left too so the next couple of weeks will be busy! And Ken can dig the Pontiac Red potatoes next time he's home..they weren't quite ready yet.
