Ok,,an acquaintance of mine pays 750 a month for a sprinter, so I assume he is making a bucket load to pay for it, plus he must be saving a ton for the transmission and engine replacement that will come at 500k for sure.

There is a guy with an M plate a block over from us that is test driving long and tall dually passenger Transit. I'll grab some picks of it next time we are home.

Tranny anywhere from 350-450,000 miles..anywhere from 4,000-8,000 depending on where ya breakdown...

engine....who knows? I know of a few at the 500,000 mile mark and still going strong...mine 537,500....no oil leaks, not burning oil...

That's kinda what I was saying why spend Sprinter money on a cargo maxx that isn't gonna last quite as long as a Sprinter. Not to say that a person couldn't get 500K out of a Ford cargo maxx, some people probably have, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

When taken care of properly...there is nothing wrong with a sprinter...maybe at first back in 03/04 but it is not near the same beast...now the 10's are again a whole new ballgame...1st year of a new motor/system...definitely a wait and see situation.

most of the sprinters problem is the ignorance and stupidity of an American behind the wheel...

Exactly.....Try treating a 911 Porsche the same way you treat and maintain a 350 chevy and see just how long you own a Porsche....

The gas, extended...1 ton....

What's the GVW on those things? I thought it was around 9600, but maybe I'm mistaken. But if it's kept under 10,000, could you still put 4500 in there and keep the total under 10,001? Just curious. I'm getting kind of tired of all these brokers wanting to pay van rates on 4000 lb loads. I expect a straight truck rate on something that heavy.

Theing with Ford is that they don't list an actual pay load capacity on there vans. my van weighs 5700 empty. The GWR is somthing like 9900 pds. the one time I had it loaded to the gills with two skids of labels in loose freight it came out to 4500 pounds.

My Van isn't an extended van either. The thing is a monster. I was nervous about putting that much weight on it & when I did the rear barly dropped.

A couple of things about these vans is that they last a long time even if they are abused. if they are maintained they will last forever, & the parts are cheap. There are hundreds of thousands of these vans running around & you can get them any where. If the Tranny blows, $1200 for a rebuild or $300 to $400 for a junk yard tranny & another $400 to install.

It's gonna be intresting to see if the new Transits are as heavy duty & well made.

My last weight ticket say's my 2002 E 350 Xt Van weighs 6960 Lbs. The door plate say's 4050 front axle and 6084 rear leaving me about 3100 for freight. If I did this right.:p

actually 750-900 monthly is pretty common for a sprinter payment... mine WAS 760ish...there was no problem making the payment...

Ufff, this is what you get if you don't look at the big picture.

My sprinter is at 360k now, and by now I saved in fuel cost alone more than what an engine and transmission would cost if they were to go bad.

A year or so ago I crunched all the numbers so I will not do it again here.

Think outside the box....

I rebuilt my transmission for $2300 at 200,000 miles. One dealership wanted $11,000 for a new transmission. And my vehicle mortgage was $1200 per month (but I finished making payments too). It was a total of $8000 in repairs over a two month period. This last winter was perilous. I don't get to save a lot for the big repair jobs, because the big repair jobs don't wait for 500,000 miles; it's pay as I go.

I'm not saying I'm doing worse than a Ford or whatever, but it isn't peaches and cream either.

hey eb can your solar panel run your ac

In this configuration, no. Two hundred more pounds of batteries and a very specially, carefully, blue printed air conditioner system, probably. At this point, maybe I'll see it on my next vehicle. Another summer, and maybe I'll change my mind and opt for sooner.
