The law of averages has certainly helped get me where I am today. Well that and being leased to best carrier EVER who is TEAM oriented and truly wants us to succeed.

We all have our ups and our downs every day, week, month, and year but in the end its how it all averaged out that keeps us here. Well that and hilarious fountain photos John puts on Facebook. :)

Everything comes at a cost. But let's be honest, we would miss him too much. Although we could keep Juju??? :)

A percentage of the fleet is always out of service. That is a pretty consistent. So that goes back to the averages being the real number any business man runs on. That is true whether it is Load One or our owner operators. It is a pretty basic business concept.

why should I run off the average of someone else's numbers?....you are jacking the numbers whether they be good numbers or bad numbers....they can be used as a tool/guideline but not to set policies toward or hold gospel....and yes I question the logic...

I agree....to some extent..over a longer term then say 30 days even 60 days....the variable must be spread over a longer term to be viable numbers for the cohesion of the overall equation....

Because if every truck runs long enough the law of averages prevail. It's simple math. Will some smarter operators always do better? Yes. But will they do better a t a company with better averages? Yes. Also the inverse is true. Not sure of the argument here??? Should I pull your numbers?

Well that is the point of it all? We are looking at averages over a period of time. Who links at a week or two and makes decisions? Poor operators who jump from carrier to carrier that's who.

at the yard. When we arrived we were the one and only. Last look we were first out of 7 :)

The yard can be very deceiving when you look at the Mac 19. The local trucks and the Canadian units can completely distort it.

Long term that works....short term numbers don't support that theory....

If you reread my post, I was refering to my trucks. Granted, for some people the law of averages on a large scale may not be math they want to believe in. But for my operation it is absolute truth no matter how you look at it. We have set averages that each truck needs to hit each week as far as rate per mile and gross revenue to the truck. The business model we have put together, a rookie with no brains could achieve because the averages are easily attainable. So, if every truck in the picture hits it's average every week then using averages tells us a lot of exact information.

The averages set represent a % of profit over what it costs to run the trucks. So anything above the average lets us gauge how much better the fleet is doing . Also the drivers themselves set there own average for their pay so we can also tell what % over there average they are doing. The averages set forth for everything are very important cause they tell us when things are not what there suppose to be.

If you don't use averages not only will you drive yourself crazy but possibly a CEO too. :)

i think he has already figured what the average chance of that happening is and the average time it will take him to do it along with the average time he has left to deal with him. The average leans towards the time he has left to deal, but that's an average guess, from an average guy !!

You use averages everyday. John use's averages every day. Your average's are different from John's. Your average YTD income is around 6,000.00. You do not include anyone's number's in your average's. John owns a company, that will use average's of any kind. I'm sure when tracking Revenue, it is tracked over an average of a time frame. It's posted often, " Load count up over this time last year". Even if you have not had a load in weeks. It would sound kind'a strange to you. lol

True story- During Budget time, a Manager showed me his revenue was going to be down 12% from last years actual numbers. Ok tell me why. After spending time hearing him pile up the sand... I had all his P&L numbers for the last 5 years. showing averages increase year after year. Now he said the growth is not there but could not say why. Based on actual 5 year average, his budget was increased, and he still made his bonus at the end of that year. Averages are our friend.

Think out-side OVM, you are but a small part of an average...LOL

Kind of odd last few pages. Sounds like something you would find in the newbies section like: Can I make money doing this?

Personally, I like to hear when the numbers are up. Regardless of what type of unit. For me, it means there is increased activity, and with increased activity comes increased opportunities
