Re: Expo "Vans 101" cancelled

One reason for the supposed "cancellation" was maybe the lack of "Van" freight... so change the name to Sprinter 101, because carriers are still signing "Sprinter type units" while cutting back on CV's...
Some are cutting back on vans in favor of Sprinters, some are not. Despite popular belief, even today, still, most expedited loads are either one or two skids, or more than four skids. There are plenty of three and four skids "Sprinter" loads, to be sure, but they do not outnumber or overwhelm the one and two skid van loads.

The expo in my mind is for the people sharing their info with new people looking to get in and learn about the industry...
Expedite Expos, home shows, boat shows, RV shows, gun shows, all of 'em, they're all about the exhibitors and their wares.

Putting together an event like this is a hard job. And despite the fact that they've had a whole year to put it together:)D), it's still largely a fly-by-seat-of-your-pants kinda deal, and lots of unexpected things can happen at the last minute, especially for things which are off the exhibitor floor, like seminars and stuff. This is just one of 'em. They may be able to get in both a securement and a van seminar, yet. Depends on time and space, like everything else.

However, despite the fact that carriers don't actively recruit vans, vanners are a significant percentage of the industry, and will likely make up a significant portion of the attendees at the Expo. Just because the van is the grunt runt of expediting doesn't mean you can't show a vanner a little luv now and again. Hug a vanner today! :D

So while we really have no idea about the why or wheres of this...the fact is that people looking to enter the industry for the most part are looking at CV's...and me personally think that the expo is for those people more then the carriers. While the carriers do "pay" the bill for the expo for the attendees to beable to go for free, they also have the resources to do their recruiting while there, and that is really their reason for being there....so the cost they incur must be worth the exposure they get by attending...

Just my 2 cents, for what it is worth...

Vans/Sprinters are one group IMO sure the sprinter has more usuable space, but they are both vans. Although the cost to get into a Sprinter is quite a bit more.
OVM drives a Sprinter should we call him Ontario Sprinter Man?

He's the second mod to use that word today. For shame.

You can find different ways to use it as well. Tell whoever canceled Vans 101 it is a mooting bad idea, whoever canceled this is mooted in the head, or moot you.

I really despise the comment "ban the vans".Why so straight trucks can haul a 20 pound box to a nuke plant,or a 100 ound load to John Deere or Cat? As they say on the CB.....SHUT UP STUPID.

I was kidding, vans are the cornerstone of the expediting business

@Paullud, the purpose of bringing my brother in-laws was that they are interested in expediting with a van. I wanted to support the information I have given them with a well presented message from someone that has more experieince then my 1+ years. They could care less about load securement before they even have the general knowledge they need to decide if they want to become an o/o of a van. Also, they have seen my e-track system, straps and all of my vans equipment and heard how this is equipment is used.

@Jenny, you are right, I did see the "Vans 101" seminar in Expedite NOW and would not be thrilled if I was someone that showed up and found out it had been canceled just two weeks before the expo for a 5 minute load securement chat.

I think the Vans 101 seminar would cover ideas for those that are considering making the jump into the fray, someone like me that is already involved but still new, and for more experienced people that are always working to stay on top. It also seems to me it is a great way to plug the companies that are involved, you can mention coming to EO for information or advise them when they are getting setup to call CIS for insurance since they are familiar with the industry and what you will need.
