Re: Expo "Vans 101" cancelled
Putting together an event like this is a hard job. And despite the fact that they've had a whole year to put it togetherD), it's still largely a fly-by-seat-of-your-pants kinda deal, and lots of unexpected things can happen at the last minute, especially for things which are off the exhibitor floor, like seminars and stuff. This is just one of 'em. They may be able to get in both a securement and a van seminar, yet. Depends on time and space, like everything else.
However, despite the fact that carriers don't actively recruit vans, vanners are a significant percentage of the industry, and will likely make up a significant portion of the attendees at the Expo. Just because the van is the grunt runt of expediting doesn't mean you can't show a vanner a little luv now and again. Hug a vanner today!
Some are cutting back on vans in favor of Sprinters, some are not. Despite popular belief, even today, still, most expedited loads are either one or two skids, or more than four skids. There are plenty of three and four skids "Sprinter" loads, to be sure, but they do not outnumber or overwhelm the one and two skid van loads. One reason for the supposed "cancellation" was maybe the lack of "Van" freight... so change the name to Sprinter 101, because carriers are still signing "Sprinter type units" while cutting back on CV's...
Expedite Expos, home shows, boat shows, RV shows, gun shows, all of 'em, they're all about the exhibitors and their wares. The expo in my mind is for the people sharing their info with new people looking to get in and learn about the industry...
