EO's doomsday preppers... what is the best advice?

If you're like me and I know I am, you'll be stocking up on ammo. I don't own any guns so at first glance this might seem ridiculous. I'm looking to the future where ammunition will become a form of currency. I could buy food with ammunition and avoid the extra costs of guns, beer, hunting licenses and the blood and guts stuff. I could also pay a lawyer to draft a legal contract where I supply ammunition to people with guns and in turn they wouldn't eat me. Do zombies recognize legal contracts as binding?

If you don't know, who does?!
PS I know where to get some reloading equipment & supplies - deal me in & I'll share.....;)

I am familiar with the Foxfire series, but never read them. I started this thread as a tongue-in-cheek exercise to exchange ideas about the efficacy of "stocking up on ammo." It is amazing how many people casually say the best plan is be prepared to kill others. Be prepared to kill many, many people. Is this where we are in human evolution?

Of course it is - isn't that the next step after demonizing people who see things differently?
You ought to find time to read Foxfire - the first one is the best! [I had all 13, and after 6 or 7 they're not quite as good.]

Is it fair to say those who stock up on ammo are enabling the bad guys who take their stuff, then used the ill-gotten ammo to harm innocent people? In essence, the good guys are inadvertently causing great harm. Could it be true that those who have nothing and rely on dumb luck are just as likely to survive? By not having a plan, one has enormous flexibilty?

I would prefer to live up around Big Bay De Noc if things go goofy. One needs water, nuthin else works without it. the more water, the better.

Blame law abiding citizens for criminals action? That is JUST like saying that IF one did not have that big screen TV the thief would not have to had stolen it. That sounds like something a liberal would say! :D

Yea, sometimes I forget I used to be a zombie.

You and I don't have the best track record as business partners. I'm not totally blaming you for our pet gator fiasco, but...

Just so you don't blame me for the Great Chinchilla Disaster - some folks here haven't forgotten the chinchilla steering wheel covers they never got...
Wait - "used to be"? Crap - now I'm gonna look like a liar for telling everyone about my friend the Zombie. And what about the Halloween parties I was gonna get you big bucks for?
Trust a zombie....what was I thinking?!
:p

Here Ya go : One Second After: William R. Forstchen,Newt Gingrich: 9780765317582: Amazon.com: Books this book have the answers you looking for. it predicted that over 90% of our population (me included) will be gone shortly after an EMP attack.
agreed.

as for a financial meltdown, currently i won't survive that either. maybe in a few years.
i am train on using a gun, but do not own a gun ( dose a pistol consider a 'son of a gun'?),
nor am i planing of getting one. too many cowboys in this country for this O'l fella to out shoot.

It is better to be prepared for natural disaster or man made disaster and never have to need to use your stockpile, Than it is to not be prepared and the cr7p hits the fan and your sitting there with no water, food, or self defense

Won't need them. I would lose SO much weight working in the outdoors I would become health again.

Has anyone found out for sure that a late model vehicles can not function after a EMP event? Seems everything Ive read about computer controlled vehicles left some question as to survivability. Weatherer it was running or not, the batt was switched off. Can it be determined with certainty?

Canoes will function quite well after an EMP event.

There is NOTHING certain in a post EMP world. It is likely that little will operate, for how long etc, who knows? The modern world is not designed to withstand that type of energy.

The very same thing some of you guys gripe about could save your life or make a difference in an EMT attack....

imagine that...
[h=2]Solar Power[/h]
  • Typically, portable generators rely on gasoline to power them. A widespread EMP, however, would make it nearly impossible to pump gasoline. Solar-powered generators remain one of the most viable means of producing power for emergency use. Invest in an inverter to convert the DC power that solar energy produces into AC power that appliances use. If you want to power a car battery, you need DC power. Shield your inverter using alternating layers of plastic and aluminum foil, and encase it in a completely enclosed and grounded metal box.

Because an EMP travels through the air, the solar panels have to be encased in an object that redirects electricity, similar to the way a lightning rod redirects a charge of lightning from your roof into the ground to prevent it damaging your house. According to the website Future Science, placing electronic appliances in plastic wrap will disperse a small charge. Have multiple layers of shielding to ensure the most protection.

If the toys you wish to use with that solar power are not in 'Faraday Cages' it ain't gonna matter. I am not opposed to solar power. I am opposed to tax dollars subsidizing it. Also, keep in mind, the wires used to move electricity across the gird with likely be burned up, like in Europe. Each one would have to prepare their house/shelter on their own.

I've read..pretty much they need to be grounded really well....since they have no moving parts..and of course any battery would need to be shielded....this talk is like back from the cold war era of having a bomb shelter that no one ever needed and the only ones that prospered were the people selling them and making them......create hystria and profit from it....

Not even close to the same thing. EMP is real, no different than earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes. It is not a matter of IF there will be another event, only a question of when.

As to a man made event. The science is known. It is simple and the tools exist.

About the Cold War, that nuke exchange was FAR close than you want to know.
