EO's doomsday preppers... what is the best advice?

You do not let a stranger into your area you only allow those that you can trust into anywhere near your location. And since someone mentioned an EMP it will knock out more than your truck most likely power plants etc so where are you going to get your water when it does not come out of the faucet when you turn it on? I stock up weapons, ammo, water, food. Nat Geo channel had a 2 hour show called After Armeggedon I hear it is out on DVD they had survival experts , mental health experts, self defense experts, etc going over different things from Natural Disasters, a medical pandemic, to the total collapse of civilization as we know it and how people would react prepared or not.

Think I seen that one..after water and power goes out....what'd they find?...like as little as 48-72 hours things rapidly go down hill....just look at the chaos of Katrina ...how it all broke down....

Coffee and cigerettes wouldn't do it. Probably take big screens and x-boxes to push it over the edge.

Can you say Amero, and North American Union.. If you have money in the stock market,i would invest in what Corperations are investing in....Prisons(CCA) fema camps will be an extension of the Prison Slave Labor that already exists. As for preparation, i keep at leastfive days of food in van, along with mobile b.o.b. Will alsoinvest in mobile solar generator soon. Probably xantrex...

The North American Union is certainly at the top of the suspect list but I also have another idea that says the government is actually doing exactly what we need. The basic idea I was thinking about is that the government intentionally tanks the dollar after borrowing tons of money from China. We then get to pay back our debts with pennies on the dollar and push China into a weaker position. The lower value of the dollar will allow manufacturing companies to come back providing jobs and strengthening our economy. It will also cause oil prices to spike which will cause oil to become to expensive and break the back of OPEC. In the search for a new cheaper fuel natural gas would be the likely candidate and we have tons of it, which would make us an energy superpower. It would basically be giving us a reset button to become better and stronger. As for my stock investments I decided to do what rich people do so I did invest in a major bank as part of my strategy. If FEMA camps become a reality then it won't matter where I put my money so for know I will follow in the tracks of the wealthy and hope I can become rich.

I mention an EMP attack because it would happen suddenly, without warning and be immediately devastating. I am convinced there is no good plan for surviving such things. If you are in your truck in California and your stockpile of doomsday goodies are home in Michigan, what good does that do in a catastrophic situation?

That has been my biggest worrie.... being stranded away from my home in a bad situation....my only solution so far to that is I carry $600-700 on me at all times...in the event that electronic funds are useless.... I figure I can bribe or buy my way home......im sure I would have to pay couple of hundred for a tank of gas.....I have been a beginner prepper for almost a year...

Only IF they know HOW to use it. Learning how to shoot and or hunt AFTER the manure runs through the impeller is a sure fire way to lose a LOT of weight! IF you don't know now you won't then. (not you in particular, you in general)

In September 2008, we almost had a complete meltdown of the US economy. Rememeber how Lehman Bros. failed and a series of cascading financial institutions failed. The federal government papered over that mess. We are one piece of bad news away from another emergency. Financial collapse seems the most likely threat to our society. When citizens lose confidence in our banking sytem, lose confidence in the value of the US dollar, lose confidence in government's ability to ensure stability.... then, real chaos breaks out.

Again as a beginning prepper I figure as you just stated as the biggest threat....(every prepper has a different scenario)...mine is finical... i have been stockpiling water..( i have 110 gallon capability ) ..been buying medium quantity's of freeze dried food...just finished last weekend installing a 7000w whole house LP generator... which is piped into my 500 gallon LP tank...that could run for months if need be....have my bug out bags for everybody...kinda keeps me busy while sitting on the road working on things in the van...does not hurt to be prepared...you never know..look when they call for a blizzard/hurricane you can not find a loaf of bread...how many people can go a week without going to a store for food...that's where the problem arises... people get desperate in desperate times...then you have to protect what you have worked to prepare for as others screwed around...poor planning on your part does not constitute a emergency on mine.. I am not planning on the government to help me...i can and will take care of myself....

That generator won't run after an EMP event, unless it is kept isolated and under a "Faraday Cage". All your appliances will suffer the same fate unless like wise protected.

My planning is more for a finical meltdown...i do have farday cages for some smaller essential electronics...the generator is in a metal gang style box..

I am doing the same. I am FAR more concerned about finical meltdowns or government running a muck than anything.

Their is many things people can do to prepare for the worst case scenarios but really it is all going to depend on the time of the year and the area that you are in.
first off if winter would think heat would be a priority something i was thinking would be something simple like a drum of water with a simple fish tank heater and ran off of a small solar panel heats water in the day and releases heat all the time.
Food dried goods rice, beans, meats trail mixes fruits.
dont just think of what to stock up on so you can just make it think of things to help you survive with out.
Tools Knifes, Axe, cable for snairs, seeds for growing food, fishing line, hooks, rope and so on.
Think of heath as well first aid, vitamins most things will last for afew years and still be good.
I have heard that you should stock up on at least 1 years worth of food just remember were you are now and were you might be a year from now. Guns would be good for hunting and as protection but you wont last long if you run out and dont have a plain for me would rather shoot something that I can eat then another person but do what you have to and good luck....

I live out in the sticks....so the 1 st thing is to inventory your surroundings ...i have 200 acres of woods behind me..a fresh water stream about 800 yds from my house...so if need be i can get by....i have a fireplace so theres winter heat if need be..im no survivalist... but no stranger to the outdoors...i will do just fine if it gets to that....honestly i feel.. hand have thought this out ALOT.. my biggest threat or problem is other people...wanting what i have...Then to throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing....I have 2 nuke plants with in 40 miles of me....so if somthing goes haywire there...thats when my bugout vehicle ( my van) comes in..thats already prepped to be lived in!!

Is stocking up on ammo the way to go?
If you're like me and I know I am, you'll be stocking up on ammo. I don't own any guns so at first glance this might seem ridiculous. I'm looking to the future where ammunition will become a form of currency. I could buy food with ammunition and avoid the extra costs of guns, beer, hunting licenses and the blood and guts stuff. I could also pay a lawyer to draft a legal contract where I supply ammunition to people with guns and in turn they wouldn't eat me. Do zombies recognize legal contracts as binding?
