Lawrence,
I assume that means in a format that can be used on the iPhone?

Doesn't EO use other mobile web formating?

iPhone is a good thing but there are other phones out there and for the money you may be spending, the users may be limited where as many of us use other devices.

Another dumb question for iphone users, do all the apps have to be loaded through Apple?

We tested a mobile version a few years ago - but it never worked well. But with the advent of 3G. I think we now have a good platform to start.

No.....I am in the woods of TN. Not near any interstate. Tried it on several trips and still no problems. Haven't went out west since having it, so jury still out on that one. May because it is the newer version. My son has the older model and I get a better signal out in the middle of nowhere better than he does.
Is yours the 3G ..... or the 3GS (the latest) ?

We did have Sprint, but in FL it worked well on 95, but at the coast it was worthless. Had to stand outside everytime I wanted to call someone.
Same problem I had with Verizon, west of DC .... ATT was marginally better .... at least I could get a signal inside the house .... which was alot nicer when it was raining ..... and in the middle of winter, of course. :D

On a side note for tethering.
A sidenote ...... to the side note (from the link you posted):

"Tethering is not currently offered in the U.S. and some other countries. See your carrier for availability."

Like I wuz sayin' .... :(

I think tethering will actually work on mine (3G) with the 3.0 software update (which I believe actually implemented tethering at an Operating System level) ..... ATT just needs to make it available. Not having it was never a deal breaker for me ... but it would be handy to have on occasion when I would prefer to use the laptop but when I'm not close to a Flying J, or an ATT WiFi Hotspot ....

3GS the latest is what we are now using, I'll have to look in the tethering thing closer. A search on the Iphone site brought up several links but I didn't check them all.

We have the iphone 3G and love it. No dropped calls problem and the maps app is fantastic and gets a lot of use!

No iPhone here. We use Sprint. We have the Unlimited Everything plan on hubby's phone ($99 a month) and 450 minutes a month plan on my phone plus we have a data card for the laptops. We've had great service with Sprint and no plans on changing.

If the iphone was offered as they are in other places, unlocked and not tied to any one company, it may be worth getting but AT&T, the people who bring you dropped calls in major markets plan have a rather monopoly on the iPhone and services.

AT&T OMG  LOL for real. We have AT&T. Seriously, it seems we cannot make it through a single phone call without losing the call! Didn't realize it was MY phone company though. Figured it was just the 'area'. Seems like it is every area! Guess I need to change. Was thinking about changing anyway. Anyone know anything about T-Mobile.

What is I-phone anyway? :D

I don't know anything about T-Mobile and how their coverage is, and THAT'S really the most important thing in this business....that we have good coverage EVERYWHERE we go.

We use Verizon, have no problems with dropped calls....the coverage is good pretty much anywhere we go.

I'd LOVE an I-phone but am unwilling to change carriers just to get the "toy" factor. Instead, I have the I-pod touch which has the capability to use all of the I-phone applications, plus I can use my phone while using my I-pod, something I couldn't do if they were one and the same.

It might not be your company, as much as it is your phone .... the specific phone can make a huge difference.

FWIW, I spent the better part of the last Thursday night on the phone (an iPhone w/ ATT) talking to a couple of friends ... probably better than 10 or 12 hours .... while I was on a run from Washington, PA to Simsboro, LA ..... including running out in the sticks, down the west side of MS, southeast AR, and northern LA, from Memphis to Simsboro ....

During that entire time I lost the connection maybe three times ... and I think at least two of those times were due to the other parties phone dropping the calls (they both were on Verizon, and were both moving as well) ..... not to shabby - considering the time and distance covered ..... and the fact that all three of us were moving ......

As for what an iPhone is - try this :D:

NO PROBLEMS ? .... none whatsoever ?

You are perhaps the luckiest Verizon user I have ever encountered .....

Personally, I tend not to try to listen to music while I'm trying to engage in a conversation ....... I find it distracting ..... but I realize different strokes .... for different folks ....

(BTW, just so you know - some of the iPhone apps can be used concurrently with the phone while you are on a call ......)

I don't have a dropped call problem but then again, I don't talk for 10 to 12 hours on the phone WHILE I'M DRIVING......

There are many applications one might be using and not want to quit in order to take a call.

You seem to be pretty defensive about that service you're getting but.....why are you the only one defending AT&T??

Yeah .... that's kinda what I figured .... you apparently don't use your phone all that much ... figured it was either that or you didn't go anywhere .... and since that didn't really seem all that likely, it was probably the former ....

My usage might be a little higher than yours .... when I'm out on the road it isn't unusual for me to average over 7,500 minutes per month ...... and going 10,000 isn't unheard of ... :D

Not at all .... I'm quite sure that ATT has it's share of service problems - the same as any other cellular company does ... including Verizon .....

Could be that I'm just not as prone to believe the corporate propaganda by any of 'em .... as some apparently are ....

BTW - I didn't ask if you had "a dropped call problem" .... I asked if you were claiming that you never experienced any dropped calls whatsoever (which is what appeared to be saying initially) - just in case you want to clarify that point further .....

Also, one other small point - while it is true that an iPod Touch can "use" any app that an iPhone can, some of those apps (like "Where ?" - one that I use quite frequently) require an Internet connection .... which is available most anywhere I have cell service (including rolling down the road) .... with an iPod Touch you need a Wi-Fi connection .... which limits the usefulness somewhat ....

but.....why are you the only one defending AT&T??
Well .... that statement on your part is an admission on your part of failure to observe .... because I don't believe that I'm the only person to have commented on having essentially no issues with ATT's service ...

(posted from my iPhone ..... but not while rolling .... :p)

Motorola is expected to announce a new phone on Sept 15. It will have the Google Android operating system that will sync with all the Google stuff, I.E. Calender G-Mail Maps, etc.

It is expected to have a Slide out full keyboard, 10 mega pixel camera, headphone jack.

I want to see this puppy when it comes out.

No surprise there, some of us don't know when to shut up and drive.....I see these types out here every day, swerving and creating hazards for the rest of us that use common sense.

Several years back, dropped calls were a problem for us with Verizon, these days, I cannot tell you when I've had a call dropped. Hope that answers your question.

Seems like a bit of stretch dontcha think ? .... considering that you really don't know me ..... or what my driving habits and skillz actually are ....... or whether the majority of my usage even occurs while I'm moving ......

I see these types out here every day, swerving and creating hazards for the rest of us that use common sense.
Of course, I do realize that world is full of people that are prone to making such judgements wholesale and characterizing individuals - or even entire classes of people ........ based on little to no actual observation of the specific individual being characterized .......

Several years back, dropped calls were a problem for us with Verizon, these days, I cannot tell you when I've had a call dropped.
I'm glad to hear that you are having good luck with them ... like I have said before though, I know several people who haven't been quite as lucky (maybe they use their phones more .... or maybe just more while moving ....)

As mentioned earlier, I think (actually, I know) the specific phone one is using can have alot to do with it ..... people often fail to make the differentiation: what might appear to be a problem with their cell carrier could actually be a problem with the phone they're using ....

Hope that answers your question.
Well, yeah ..... it kinda does .... although for a complete understanding one would really have to know how much you actually use your phone (number of minutes) and the circumstances under which you use it (locations, whether moving or not, etc.) ...... not that I'm asking (no interest really)

IOW, if you use your phone to a rather limited degree, and rarely while moving, I wouldn't necessarily characterize that as a great testament to how good the carrier's network is ......

Hope that answers your question.I have that application on my I-pod and am able to use it anywhere I wish because I also have the Verizon Mifi....[/B]
Well there you go ..... a fairly elegant solution IMHO .... kudos to Verizon for making it available.

Of course, it is a bit pricey compared to the iPhone .... $40 per month for 250MB of downloads, or $60 for 5GB ..... (as compared to the iPhone's $40 for unlimited downloads)

It's certainly true that ATT does need to address the fact that they currently don't offer tethering with the iPhone .... (but there are ways to get around that until they do .....)

THIS time........
Uhhhh yeah .... well, actually .... anytime .....

(Sent from my laptop ....... and yes Virginia: .... I'm sitting still .....)

Well whatever you two say... try to figure out what's wrong with AT&T.

I am sitting here, trying to make some calls and wow look at that, AT&T drops my calls on my new phone after two days of them telling me it is my phone. Is it a new iPhone - you bettcha it isn't because I don't want AT&T any more.

The tower that is nearest to my home, is one that they own, one they confirmed they own, is one they looked at it yesterday when I first called and is the one they are playing level 3 diag with it but still the signal bars go down while talking to them as I was sitting next to the window with the new phone they told me to get propped up against the window.

I went through the same cr*p as I did with them yesterday;
Yes trees have foliage but they didn't change them Sunday night
no the problem wasn't there Sunday
my phone gives me problems in major markets but it is great out in the boonies
no I don't see any flying saucers and I don't have enough tinfoil to make a giant antenna
yes i own cats but they are not metallic cats

Wow I put the sim card back into the old phone and look there the signal is still drifting down and then opps there it is a dropped call.

AT&T level three support just told me that it is my phone. again.... great.....

Greg, you're not the only one getting the "it's your phone" line from AT&T. A friend that I talk with daily has AT&T and dropping is a huge problem for him. He's been talking to customer service a lot lately. He tells them to look at his calls and they clearly see a pattern of him calling back the same number several times, and yet they don't want to admit that the problem just may be with their service. I think he's going to switch to Alltel.

Begs the question - why would you go get a new ATT phone if you don't want ATT ?

I mean, you been *****ing about them on here ........ for how long now .... months ? ..... years ?

Why do you still have them if they are so bad ?

Exactly how far are you from that tower ?

Sounds like you can see it from where you sit ...... (talkin' about the leaves and all .....)

And this one below (filtered to show all cell carriers) might indicate that you may well not be able to get much better service ........ maybe even with any other provider.

Seems like maybe the town fathers might not to keen on having them nasty cell towers there in the fine city of Redford ....

Dunno ....... maybe talking to them as to why exactly Redford has little to no towers might be just be a little more of a correct target .... as opposed to just complaining about your carrier (who may be being prevented by your local government from even locating a tower there) ..... just a thought ....

Or, in light of the coverage map below, you might just want to consider moving ...... just a thought .....
