Diesel Stolen While Driver Sleeps

Nothing new there, it is hard to hear someone opening your tanks with your truck idling and the music up loud in the sleeper.

Same thing happened during the blinker fluid shortage. The price of blinker fluid went sky high as did the number of blinker fluid thefts. That driver was lucky that all that was stolen while he slept was his fuel. It could have been his kidney!

I just had the blinker fluid pump replaced in my Sprinter. 871 bucks. Glad it was still under warranty.

I had a buddy here in town that had 50 gallons of diesel removed from his tank recently. $200 at the time. I guess he decided that $200 more in locking caps wasn't that big of a deal.

Solution: Locking Fuel Caps

Small investment to keep thieves (LOWLIFES) out of your tank. Expect to see more of this.

Anybody care to post some info on where to find locking caps, and how much one could expect to pay ?? Haven't had diesel stolen yet, but the way things are right now, I expect it sooner or later.

Locking fuel caps

The problem I hear a lot about locking caps is that they need to be cleaned and checked often in the winter or the zinc casting will corrode and you have to break it off. The brass locking cap offered for my truck uses an inexpensive locking mechanism that makes me a bit apprehensive.

I heard of another company that produces an all brass locking cap and it is only sold through their site but I have not found the site.

Keep truck stop M.D.'s from kidnapping your kidneys while napping...

Good info. and points. What do you suggest as an anti-corrosive? Other than keeping your truck washed and free of salt.

I have a habit of taking things apart and cleaning them periodically. I use white lithium grease on the locks for the summer and a oil (used synthetic) in the winter.

Maybe, just maybe, the folks that carry dogs with em, can get some good outa the critter these days if they'd tie em by the tanks. Should be no problem then. Spose?

Ha, you've got a great point! Wouldn't even need to tie em outside, as long as they could be counted on to bark!
