Diesel Stolen While Driver Sleeps

Don't get me wrong, the dog suggestion is good. Our dogs warn us when someone walks across our bumper. I just would not place them outside. Too many golden rivers in the parking lot if you get my drift.

Then there is always the chance of someone stealing your dog or maybe even killing it.

I hope they make the locking caps better then when I was a teen...those caps they made for cars were a snap to pop off with the "right tool"!! The ones I've seen in the TS's don't look all that "secure" for someone who knows what they are doing.
Better yet would be a cap linked to an alarm system once the circuit is broken off go the lights and sirens! If they don't make one like that "maybe" someone could design one....I think someone could make a buck or 2 with a good patent?

A locking cap may deter or slow down someone, but thieves have moved to simply drilling holes into the tank.

The one I like is the one where they use the line tap and drain the fuel by the cross over line.

OVM can't put an alarm anything on a fuel cap, not a DOT thing. the potential for a fire hazard is too risky according the same people who insist we have orange seatbelts.

As for removing one, I seen one that was well built and rather impossible to remove. It even had a round key tumbler.

If you see any of these online, please post us a pic.

By that same note, I'd be happy to see them do a little redesign on the tanks, period! One that would make it next to impossible to siphon out fuel.

I asked this question and the response I got was they make the tanks to deal with the emissions first and then fuel flow rates second.

I see what they are driving at when I saw someone with an anti-siphon sleeve stick the nozzle in the tank, set the handle and than walk away. After 30 gallons sprayed all over the place, someone stopped the pump.

I think I got a picture of it, but it is one of those camera phone pics so the quality may not be the best.

if you loosen the fuel line from the tank, its faster getting fuel out than sucking it out with cyphin.Locking cap wont stop that.Small dogs bark at everything, lots of falty barks. If you want to keep that fuel, just dont stop, but if you have to,buy wife a cot,and have her sleep next to truck

Alot of good points. However, the point is to deter theft. A thief in a hurry will not bother trying to figure out how to get into your tank if you have a locking cap or maybe even a dash cam. He or she will move onto the easier target.

 Had to bring this back up 'cause I had fuel stolen last night. I'm at the 'J' in Olive Branch, MS.
I'm parked in the row backed up towards the highway. My truck is about halfway back in the space, so my gen set won't be too annoying for others. I felt the truck rock, peeked out of the covered windows. Nothing in the mirrors, a 4-wheeler tow truck (repo style) stopped in the drive,in front of truck, with parking lights on. It was a little breezy, must have been a stronger gust. I checked again in a little bit and saw two guys get into the tow truck. They left.
This morning I had spilled fuel on my driver's side tank. The 'J' said they don't have any cameras in the parking lot so they couldn't help out there. I did file a police report, hopefully there'll be more frequent patrols of the lot and they'll get caught.

My hubby was in Memphis about 3 months ago & had a tank of fuel stolen. He was tired of eating truck stop food so he went to a nearby resteraunt. Came out about hour later, started the truck & went about 10" & the truck the quit. Guage said the truck was empty but he thought it was wrong cuz he had just filled it earlier that afternoon (150 gallons). Got out & checked the tanks & sure enough, they were empty. He was LIVID. Along comes a statie to see what the problem was & hubby explained the situation. Cop said that there had been a rash of this happening in the area. Asked hubby if he saw the guy & hubby told him that if he had seen the guy, there wouldn't have been enough left of the guy to put in jail. About then the cop got disptched on a call & left with lights & sirens blaring. Shortly after, the same cop came back along with several more cops & told hubby that they caught the guy....something that they had been trying to do for several weeks.
Come to find out, it was a guy in one of those road service trucks that was stealing fuel from truckers in the area....truck stops included. The cop sent a service truck to bring fuel for my hubby.....compliments of the state of TN. Hubby had showed the cops the receipt where he filled the truck earlier that afternoon.

I was lucky they didn't take nearly that much. My gauge shows just under full, so I figure they just took about 20-30 gallons.

Back to the dogs. Yorkies are about the best intruder alarm any where and they don't shed. I just happen to have 5 Yorkie puppies ready to go. I'm not kidding I really do have the puppies. If not a puppy, I could send the wife, she is about the meanest woman I know. The thieves would probably bring more fuel back just to shut her up.

I just ordered some of the anti- sipon insets at www.fueltankaccessories.com; I will post on how they work and the cost.

I took mine out because the seal was not good enough and fuel leaked out from under the cap. I bought the only one Thermo King, across the street from Detroit Diesel had. It might be because they sold me the wrong one. It looked like the right size, but the size is very close to the reefer tank opening size. Put in only one side and see if any fuel spills out when you go down the road, before putting in the second. If it works, can you let us know?
