Dick Armey on John Stewart

That's why one would ask a question, such as the one I posed to you. Here, let's try it again. Why do you keep calling me an "academic elite"? <<< notice the question mark

That would be your attitude of being so much smarter than many here. Now don't start thinking that you're special.....there's a whole group here that feels the same so you'll have to argue amongst yourselves to figure out who's the smartest of all!

DD, if I wear a baseball style cap, the bill faces forward, as intended. I do not understand why anyone, over the age of ten, would wear the cap backward. Regarding my underwear, never visible to the general public. Hope this answer is helpful.

Once again, one of the "academic elite" needs to do their homework.....

... and actually learn what the phrase really means as it is commonly used ........ (as opposed to just using your own made-up definition)

Sorry, you lose the $500. As RLENT clearly stated, you should actually learn what the phrase really means as it is commonly used, with the key word there being "phrase". You used it yourself nested within quotes, "academic elite". In trying to be all cute and everything and trying to take joy out of one-upping the so-called academic elite, you've missed the small detail that a phrase is different from a word, and phrases often have different meanings than the individual words they contain. In the case of "academic elite", this is especially true.

The phrase "academic elite" has nothing to do with background, methods or outlook, and is applied exclusively to academic institutions and the people within them as being a closed society or circle that promotes the notion that only those people within that circled society have anything worthwhile to say or do, and if you aren't a product of that society, they dismiss you as irrelevant.

The top-35 economics departments at the top-35 most prestigious universities pull 76 percent of their faculty from their own graduates, with the other 24 percent being from one of the other top-35 universities. That's a glaring example of "academic elitism", where the only people worth of being on the faculty there are those who already within the circle of the academic elite.

Apparently, you've redefined "academic elite" to mean simply "snotty smart people that I'm jealous of because they keep talking over my head." And that's fine, I guess. But keep in mind that jealousy begets envy (to resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it), and often wrath (an inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of anger or hatred and intense disdain of others).

I realize that by my posting this, I have also solidified my position in your mind as an "academic elite", and that's OK, I guess.

And yes, snotty smart people know very well what snotty un-smart people think of them, but they don't care, since snotty smart people are not going to dumb themselves down so that snotty un-smart people can feel smarter and better about themselves.

If there were such a group, your attitude would certainly qualify you for membership.
But your failure to see yourself as 'the pot calling the kettle black' would eliminate you from being chosen 'the smartest of all'.
IMHO, of course.

Has anyone ever heard a pot call a kettle black? Has anyone ever heard a pot speak? If so, I would suggest seeing a doctor.:p

Who's Dick Armey?

From Wikipedia:
Richard Keith "Dick" Armey (pronounced /ˈɑrmi/; born July 7, 1940 in Cando, North Dakota) is a former U.S. Representative from Texas's 26th congressional district (1985–2003) and House Majority Leader (1995–2003). He was one of the engineers of the "Republican Revolution" of the 1990s, in which Republicans were elected to majorities of both houses of Congress for the first time in four decades. Armey was one of the chief authors of the Contract with America. Armey is also an author and former professor. After his congressional career he worked as a consultant and advisor.

and should i care?

If you are Tea Party person I guess you would care, since he is representing them. So I guess you should be asking that question to yourself.

I don't think that many in here quite understand things. I don't care one flip about the Dumb-O-Crats, the ReBumLiCans, the "Tea Party" (what ever that is) or ANY other group of politicians.

I don't like the extreme left or right. I believe ONLY in the following:

The United States Constitution - The U.S. Constitution Online - USConstitution.net

If any of the RIGHTS, in the Bill of Rights offends you, TOUGH!

Government run health care is NOT listed. It IS unconstitutional. Don't like that? Too bad. There are TWO ways to make it legal, which it is NOT now. Amend the Constitution, OR, call a Constitutional Convention and write a new one. Follow the law of the land or you are a criminal. Period. That includes ANY politician, from ANY party or ANY part of the political spectrum.

Now which part of the Bill of Rights makes me a radical? Left or right wing?

Really?

the "Tea Party" (what ever that is) or ANY other group of politicians.

The Tea Party has no political affiliation, it is a grassroots movement by the people. So you are saying you do not know what this "Tea Party" thing is? This looks like something you would be interested in layout.

From Wikipedia:
Tea Party political agenda

Because the Tea Party is not associated with any single organization, it can often be difficult to explicitly define its agenda. Though self-identified Tea Partiers seem to share a general support for economically conservative ideas and reduced government spending, they often may differ greatly on the particulars, and rifts can sometimes develop between the traditional conservatives and the sometimes more socially-liberal libertarians. [95]

The contract's founder, Ryan Hecker told The New York Times, "Hundreds of thousands of people voted for their favorite principles online to create the Contract as an open-sourced platform for the Tea Party movement." The new list, he said, was “created from the bottom up. It was not crafted in Washington with the help of pollsters."[96] However, the Washington conservative group FreedomWorks, led by former House Republican Leader Dick Armey, did have a hand in selecting the final 10 proposals. [97]

The Contract lists 10 agenda items that it encourages congressional candidates to follow:[98][99]

1.Identify constitutionality of every new law: Require each bill to identify the specific provision of the Constitution that gives Congress the power to do what the bill does. (82.03%)
2.Reject emissions trading: Stop the "cap and trade" administrative approach used to control pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants. (72.20%)
3.Demand a balanced federal budget: Begin the Constitutional amendment process to require a balanced budget with a two-thirds majority needed for any tax modification. (69.69%)
4.Simplify the tax system: Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words – the length of the original Constitution. (64.9%)
5.Audit federal government agencies for constitutionality: Create a Blue Ribbon taskforce that engages in an audit of federal agencies and programs, assessing their Constitutionality, and identifying duplication, waste, ineffectiveness, and agencies and programs better left for the states or local authorities. (63.37%)
6.Limit annual growth in federal spending: Impose a statutory cap limiting the annual growth in total federal spending to the sum of the inflation rate plus the percentage of population growth. (56.57%)
7.Repeal the health care legislation passed on March 23, 2010: Defund, repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. (56.39%)
8.Pass an 'All-of-the-Above' Energy Policy: Authorize the exploration of additional energy reserves to reduce American dependence on foreign energy sources and reduce regulatory barriers to all other forms of energy creation. (55.5%)
9.Reduce Earmarks: Place a moratorium on all earmarks until the budget is balanced, and then require a 2/3 majority to pass any earmark. (55.47%)
10.Reduce Taxes: Permanently repeal all recent tax increases, and extend permanently the George W. Bush temporary reductions in income tax, capital gains tax and estate taxes, currently scheduled to end in 2011. (53.38%)

Now which part of the Bill of Rights makes me a radical? Left or right wing?

I didn't know anyone here was accusing you of being anything.

Just making sure there was NO confusion, that is all, nothing more, not aimed at ANYONE in particular.

I know what the "Tea Party" CLAIMS to be. I see a LOT of used retread politicians there. Don't trust a LOT of them.

I also have NO vote on a National level except for the following: President, Vice President, one congressman and two senators. That is IT!! What ANY other politician, from ANY party, or any other state does is NOT my fault. I had NO input into their being elected or not being elected.
