Death by DeSantis

U.S. citizens will do those jobs for a higher salary. Double it to around $26. Businesses will just have to raise the price of berries.
The same US citizens that are told as soon as they start school they need to get a college education so they won’t have to work a day in their lives.

I have a college education, as do many of my friends. In my entire life, I've never met a college graduate or student who was told they won't have to work a day in their lives if they get a college education.

Who exactly is telling that to any group of US citizens? Personally, I've never heard or read anything remotely saying or implying such nonsense. In fact, it's always been just the opposite; people have been told to go to college so they can get a good paying job.

Ummm, you're on your own on that one.... I've never heard such a thing either.

When I said work I meant physical work, didn’t mean that they would not have a job. For even 50k a year, how many 20 something’s do you see out in the fields picking fruit?

None picking fruit other than their own farms, but plenty doing other physical work, ie: construction, road work, etc. Could there be more, sure, but I do see them.

Florida Republican Party Turns Against DeSantis

A new mood is showing itself in the FL Republican Party. DeSantis is the golden boy no more. This was made clear in a crucial vote the party recently took regarding a loyalty pledge. DeSantis strongly supported it. The Florida Republican Party said F you, Ron DeSantis; and by accounts reported here, they meant exactly that.

Is this an outlier action or a sign of things to come? I think it's a sign of things to come. DeSantis sewed a lot of resentments when he strong-armed his agenda through the legislature. And his policies are beginning to bring pain to Floridians (driving migrants out, insurance companies leaving the state, draconian abortion law, Disney dispute and its lost jobs, education strife in which no one is happy with education anymore, everyone is fighting).

I figured that is what you meant. Too many young go to college and it’s mostly a waste of time and money.

A lot of kids would be far better off going to technical or trade schools instead of spending 4-5 years and going eyeball deep in debt for a worthless degree.

My neighbor “cleans up” doing HVAC work. In his 30’s. Solid, professional work that is stable.

"Worthless" is a relative term. Regarding the value of college degrees, the majority of people who have them think they are worth it.

Survey firm Finder conducted a suvey this year of 2,000 Americans to learn more about their perceptions of the value of a college degree. The survey found that:
  • 53% of Americans believe that a college degree is worth the investment.
  • 39% are unsure or don't think their degree was worth the money.
  • 13% are unsure and 26% don't think it was worth it.
  • Men are more likely than women to believe that their degree was worth it (64.7% vs. 55.9%).
  • Younger Americans are more likely than older Americans to believe that their degree was worth it (61.7% for those under 35 vs. 47.2% for those over 55).
The survey also found that the most common reasons why people felt their degree was not worth it were:
  • The cost of tuition was too high (38%).
  • They were unable to find a job in their field of study (28%).
  • They were underemployed (19%).
I was not surveyed, but if I had been, I would have answered with the 53%. My degree was absolutely worth the investment, not in terms of money earned (double major in history and philosophy), but in the quality of life enhancement it provides every day I'm alive.

Immediately after I graduated from college, I attended and graduated from a technical school (auto mechanics) and that too was worth the investment.

When the price of labor exceeds a certain level, business people stop thinking about replacing humans with humans. They turn to automation instead.
Another example of automation. Robotics are progressing at lightening speed. As capabilities improve and prices fall, I will purchase a janitor robot for our gym.

Notice this one can teach yoga classes too. I do not intend to offer robot-led yoga classes. But I fully intend to buy a janitor robot. When it is not cleaning our gym, I'll rent it out to neighboring businesses in our strip mall. The thing can work 24 hours a day and make me money, instead of costing me the money hiring a human janitor now requires.

A human janitor costs employers money. A robot janitor makes money for their owners. Bye, bye human janitors.

Looks like DeSantis has seen enough of pro Hamas activities on FL college campuses. It's noteworthy that no other governors have taken a stance against college terrorist supporters.

"The state university system of Florida announced Tuesday that campus chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine must be "deactivated," citing their support for recent terrorist attacks by Hamas."
