Boycott the NFL

Which is why I watch less and less TV and even less sports than I once did.

I wonder, just how many buy items based on commercials? I don't ever recall buying anything based on what I saw on a commercial. Quite the contrary, the more a product is advertised the less likely I am to buy it.

I am not much for that "new and improved" stuff either...at my age I am probably not going to change my habits based on a commercial...

I was a little kid the last time a commercial held any sway. They seldom advertise anything I buy, outside of food, anyway. The more they push it, the crummier the product likely is.

that said, coming back to Leo and the NFL.....IF Leo feels the NFL stance offends him so deeply...then he can and does have the right to boycott them at his discretion...that is well within his rights....I have no problem with that...

Not true. Commercials are designed to make products appeal to you in a variety of ways. One of the more common ways is to give you an inexplicable feeling of 'feel-good' about the company or product. They don't even attempt to show you logically why their product is superior to the competition they just make themselves warm and fuzzy and that makes you more apt to reach for your wallet. They push buttons and we respond.

Oh, I know what they are TRYING to do, but I don't buy much of anything that is advertised on TV, except needed items, and the more it is advertised the less likely I am to buy it.

MOST of the non-necessties I buy are seldom, or never, advertised on TV. At least not on any channel I have ever seen.

Are you sure you haven't bought a can of Flex-seal?

Nope, never have. I HAVE bought several cans of a similar product, made by Rustoleum. My duck hunting "mentor" has started using it to rehab damaged duck decoys. I have used it on 18 of mine. So far, so good. It has stopped the "bleed through" problem I was having with them. I have 27 more in different stages of disrepair. First sanding, then Bondo an more sanding, then a coat of FlexSteel epoxy paint, 2 coats of the "rubber stuff" then final painting.

Am I missing something? The NFL doesn't want to advertise guns our this guy's store, big deal as it is simply their right. The NFL is trying to appeal to many people and you know a bunch of people are offended at the sight of guns and they would give the NFL a bunch of grief so it is easier just not to directly advertise them. Why should we be whining over a company exercising their right when it doesn't hurt anyone?

I am offended by those who don't like guns! So there. Why are we whining? Nothing else to do. Bored.

Why only quote half of what I wrote?
Simple: because that is specifically what I was directing the comments that I wrote towards.

Interesting.
I suppose some might find it so ... but then some might also find your unwillingness to name NFL adverts you find repulsive to be interesting as well.

My advice - with respect to what I wrote - whether one finds it particularly interesting or not - would be to not divine any great meaning out of it ...

Personally, I found the commercial lame, depressing, poorly done, and using fear as a selling point. That's nothing I want to see during the Super Bowl. Throw in a talking baby, a cute dog, and one of those Go Daddy girls, and they may have something

The NFL certainly has the right to reject advertising that doesn't meet it's standards. And that ad was pretty lame in the obvious effort to hit all the hot buttons among a certain group - I'd have rejected it just for being so clearly fearmongering. And sexist, too: for not suggesting that the pretty little woman can defend the home & herself too. With the same weapon the big strong man uses.
That said, it's rather amusing that the NFL is taking the high road in rejecting ads with violence [like that's not part of their product] or alcohol [like they don't sell a LOT of it at their stadiums]....

You're creating a false premise in order to create a false charge of hypocrisy. The only ads they specifically reject for violence are those for video games, movies or other media which contain excessively violent material. They don't reject any and all ads which contain violence. And they don't reject ads for alcohol, they only reject ads for distilled spirits and flavored malt beverages, which they don't sell at stadiums nor allow patrons to bring into the stadium.

Flavored malt beverages? I suspect there is a specific motivation for not advertising that one...
