Reasonable answer on the tech's part. Service managers/directors aren't my favorite people right now, so I'll reserve comment on him.

Being the suspicious person that I am, I will say that putting you off this long makes me think they are waiting for something. A part or wiring harness they damaged in the original repair.


Now that makes sense..but why lie? why not just fess up instead of letting your customer stew? He oughta be hung if that's the case...after he's fired! And drug thru the cactus on his naked butt!

Probably not the tech but the service manager. Free labor and free parts reduce his bottom line. With SD plates, Ken wouldn't be seen in his shop that often. Usually, the tech is not paid to correct a mistake he made, but that doesn't stop the manager from charging the customer.

Honesty seems to have gone out the window with the economy. I'm dealing with the same situation with the International. If I were Ken, I wouldn't go back there and you pick up the phone and file a complaint with Chrysler.

I honest to God expected more from a Texan..must have imported this one from Detroit! And Ken IS a repeat customer of this dealer..but I suspect that love affair is over...

I know he's a repeat customer but he's not a regular. Dodge dealers no longer sell Sprinters so they don't care if they lose the business. At least it appears that this dealer doesn't.

Actually Berry Dodge caters more to sprinters then most, they have an online store and will ship parts at reasonable prices...my injector pump retailed for almost 1700, I got it for 1200 and so on...they will bargain....

Now to that service manager...as told to me...

His wife is a service advisor...apparently they get paid a commission on the write up....HER cars are getting bumped up so she gets paid first...he is playing games the other 2 service writers are ticked off and so are the techs for getting pulled off the job and having to switch...this manager is Hispanic and the Mr Berry is either not aware of the problem or is ignoring it....He'll be aware of it by the time I leave to be sure...

Right off the top I was told it might be till Tuesday before they could look at it...

I've dealt with many service managers over the years both as a tech and customer. Most I wouldn't give the time of day to, but this guy shouldn't be allowed to do what you say he's doing.

On the bright side..now we KNOW what it is..hopefully they can overnight it...and at least you'll have wheels to get supplies as you need them. Want me to send you down a plant for your room?:)

Ask where the part is, then I know of Expedite Company that works miracles and could have a part to you in 24 hours. This is Thusday you would have it Friday be back on road before weekend is over.
We have broken down a couple times and have been told the samething. I don't take no for an answer and because I was on the phone to where the part was and figuring out how to get the part there 3 days before the delivery truck was going to have it there our truck was back on the road much quicker.
One place even loaned us a car so we could go get it, 70 miles away. The store that had it, set the part out behind some bushes for us since they were closing. We had the part back there when the service department arrived in morning we were on road before noon. If we hadn't done that we would have been sitting for the week end, 3 days.

Tracy likes when I get involved even though he acts kind of embarrassed by me but I get the job done. There is always a way if there is a will. You just have to give them the will. Squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Still at the yard, still #3, thinking about going to Bixby Hospital, Adrian MI, to do our waiting. Maybe we can be there for the arrival of our grandson. Of course as soon as we get there we will get a load.

The part is coming directly from the vendor, where ever that is..they claim 3-5 "working days" to process the order..It maybe here Monday if the stars are aligned in my favour!:rolleyes: The way things have been going I'll not hold my breathe..
It only takes about an hour to install and program...

Sooooo off to the motel manager to swing a deal...:D

Unfortunately, the ECM is vehicle specific. The VIN has to be programmed in at the parts location. They have the software, the dealer doesn't. Once it gets to the dealer, the rest of the vehicle info gets programmed in. To my knowledge, Mercedes has not released the software so ECM's can be recycled.

I'll give you another. To buy a Sprinter key, you have to order it from the dealer, who orders it from the warehouse. Upon receipt of the key, the dealer will cut it based on the VIN. The dealer then sends the key to a company in CA to have the proper crystal installed and they send it back to the dealer. When you pick up your key in about 10 days or so and hand the dealer $300, you're good to go.

All Mercedes vehicles are set up this way should you ever decide to buy one.:(
