I'm not rocking this boat. The excruciatingly slow first quarter multiplied times four and I'm still on track for my second best year in expediting. I've got all kinds of patience left.

I see what you're saying, Ziggi. A freind of mine just got a load from Wi. to L.A. paying .95cpm. Doable, yes.

But once we reduced our rates to the bid boards or customers to get us through the slow times, and to keep us moving, how do you explain, once it has picked up, the reason for our rates going back up? I think once we reduce our rates they are going to expect that rate all of the time, and if we go back to our usual rates, they may find someone else that will give them the rate they are after.

I've seen this happen while leased to other companies. The rates never went back up after it picked up. Well, at least the driver pay didn't,anyway.

You did not read what I wrote I specifically addressed bidding not the customer base and made a point to distinguish the two.

Just guessing but were you by chance on a mileage rate when prices dropped verses percentage? If so how do you know prices never returned.

I am not doing horrible but know people who are. Might not be the smartest business in some peoples minds but I am concerned with more than my little world. I would also like to see those I consider friends do well.

I would rather have the bid team be more flexible when we are away from our base than sit for days collecting load ones money.

Even in the slowest of times a few will do exceptionally well but we cannot close our eyes to those around us.

Agreed... You can't win...I would at least like the opportunity to have a .... More varied ummm pay scale ... You say you don't want cheap on your trucks... Bottom line it's our truck under your banner....lets us be the business person we are and give us more selection.
The problem with that is that you risk replacing the dispatch order with a "let's make a deal" system where the last guy on the board undercuts everyone above him to jump the list. In some ways that's business, but it can become a slippery slope pretty quick also.

Xig,

I think the flexibility is already built in. If someone feels the need for a reduced rate to get moving, is anything stopping the driver from asking for a 70 cent load?

In OUR little world, we can probably get a little farther down the road if we work on helping our stuggling friends directly instead of rattling John's cage. I think that's mostly my point from the start.

I have to go with Rocket on this. I get emails and calls with "a Disptacher asked how low he should bid!" Half get mad, half day they should have asked me! No great answer, but while some move on or change plans... Mine was not a short term plan and I am no where near changing it. I don't think anyone signed on for the short term.

Good or bad most believed I had a good plan and a steady hand. Not just through calm seas. I got this.

I know i am new to load one but i am not new to expediting. Compared to the other companies load 1 is the bomb! Awesome people and good paying runs and most of the drivers we met have been in good spirits :) I will take a 2 or 3 stack over panther or e-1's 10 to 20 stack... been there too many times. Freight is slow is sucks. We just left e-1 their freight was no better there. All we can do is hope it gets better. I think the way John is doing things is just fine. And i fully agree if we start running cheap freight all the customers will want cheap freight and there goes the neighborhood.

Now a lighter note. We delivered 12 hrs early and sitting 3rd our in Lebanon, TN :) time for some shut eye.

In no way shape or form was I ratteling anyone's cage just simply stating my feelings on the subject. We are all adults and if we can't do that then it would just be wrong. John has stated more than once he does not shy away from people having opinions.

Iam here for the short term really... Guys like Xiggi, eb, and guido have far more to win or lose. They have at least 20 more years to go out here.. IF the big plan doesn't work or works out.

Oh to add a backhaul out of a bad area they never pay good lol. But being in a straight sometimes you have to take sprinter pay or less to get out of there. Sprinters may have to take cargo van pay. But a crap load gets you to a better area its worth it. We once took a crap backhaul after sitting in tx for a week. It didnt cover the fuel to ohio, but when we delivered we had a load that paid great it covered up the loss of the last load. Its all about the average :)!

This is not the first dance for most of us here. We have been around the block a few times. Congrats on your first load.

So does that mean I can't ask bid team to bid cheaper for me so I can stay running ie. .85-.90$ per mile?!

Yes and no. Depends on situation, time and place. Generally we don't want the Load One name on those bids as a practice. You knew you didn't sign on to "that" kind of carrier.
