I don't see any racism in it. The social programs put in place, are succeeding at holding the minorities down. LBJ said it himself, about welfare... we'll have those n****** voting Democrat for 200 years.

And as far as anti-gun legislation... look at Chicago, DC, and LA. People there can't defend themselves, without going thru hoops the rest of us (white, middle class) don't usually have to.

OVM, you are missing the history completely.

Johnson succeeded in doing what Roosevelt (TR), Wilson, Hoover, FDR and Truman all tried to do. LBJ got it done on the wave of empathy from the JFK killing. JFK didn't do much of anything during his administration other than screw women.

See if you read about these people and see what their motives were, then you would understand the point they are trying to make.

TR and Hoover, even though were republicans, their intentions were not about race or class but it fell into that category in history. Hoover actually proposed a lot of the new deal social programs during the '32 campaign.

Wilson, the democrat who segregated the military after 50 years of real desegregation saw social programs as a way to control the minorities which by the way included eastern European immigrants. He didn't get far, his stroke put a stop to a lot of things.

But Johnson who was a real politician, more so than Truman, saw the advantage to putting a lot of these social programs in place and make people fully dependent on the government.

They knew what was going to happen, they knew that the push for minorities who looked at the government for help would become dependent and demand more.

Hispanics were not minorities, and in fact really are not today. Even Italians were on the same footing as Hispanics until the 1960's.

Actually gave us Obama.

The mentality of the people has chance from we can do it alone to where in the h*ll is mine.

Just look at Katrina, people refusing to eat MREs while starving.

Detroit is a reflection of the shape of things to come.

If you have kept up on the mess of the city, you will know it isn't just the city but the entire region that is messed up. Oakland county exec is still working with Detroit and still doesn't get why he should worry about his county first.

This morning I was listening to some panel talk show on either the BBC or NPR. One of the panel members made a great point - the oil LEAK, the mess with the roads, the entire debacle of health care and so on has been handed to the country with one change to our constitution, the 17th amendment - direct election of United States Senators. With that one change, the states lost their representation in the government. The example used is Jindal trying to get Obama to force the corp of engineers to allow building of sand bars to fight the oil. The panelist pointed out that if the state appointed the senator, then the state could tell the senator to fight for them.
