start making people responsible for their bad driving . make the companies pay big fines .

if a car went through the guide rail . do you just blame the guide rail .because it did not stop the car from going off the road . or do you blame the driver for driving stupid. if you are on a road you never been on before do you drive the speed limit , over the sped limit , or do you drive what the road conditions are right if front of you tell you should drive .

do you only watch 5 feet in front of you , do you only watch 20 feet ahead of you . do you only watch 100 feet ahead . or do you watch all feet ahead of you .

so if a child runs out on the road after a ball . and gets hit . it is not the drivers fault at all . yes the child should of been taught not to run out on the road . just like the drive which is way older . should know when children are playing along side of the road . he should reach down for his cell phone so he can text his buddies . while he drives past children playing and also go the speed limit .

my boy is 17 . been driving 1 year . we were going down a road posted 45 mph . small 2 lane . family with small children were in their yard playing . i told him to slow down some . he said he was going the speed limit . i said i don't care when you see small children slow down you never know what they will do . same if adult is walking along the road . slow down you never know if they could trip on something as you go past .

it is called common sense . nothing to do with who has the bigger vehicle . who has the right away . or any of the other stupid reasons that somebody got killed .
yes **** happens . but allot of should not happen because people need to start being responsible for their own actions . need to start thinking about others instead of just them self's . we should just exterminate all Amish now . because they are different them us and they have different believes then us .

All the education in the world will not fix the problem of a 53' trailer NOT being able to get around a curve that is too tight. That it gets forced into the oncoming lane. LOTS of those up in parts of PA around the cabin.

I've driven t/t on those roads, where you make as much noise as possible when approaching blind curves.

The ONLY solution is to restrict trucks that are longer than the roads were designed for. That WILL NOT HAPPEN.

Until a high profile accident occurs, like a school bus vs t/t, killing a bunch of kids - then it will happen.

Saying "educate" is VERY simplistic.

And your solution is better? Oh, that's right: you didn't offer one. So what would you suggest?

The State and county know quite well that today's rigs cannot safely drive on those roads. Those are the very roads where Amish buggies are present in LARGE numbers. On Sunday's they out number cars by a wide margin.

When a trailer is running in the oncoming lane it is a REAL problem.

I have even been on roads where my straight truck could NOT go around a curve because the roads were too narrow and turn too tight. Once in PA and in California.

How did you handle it?

Another Amish boy killed by a drunk driver in Lagrange, In

A 12-year-old was killed after the horse drawn cart he was driving was hit by a drunk driver in LaGrange County on Saturday evening.

Officials say that Jeremy Rupkey, 36, was travelling south on CR 500 when he looked down to get his cell phone from his passenger seat when he struck the driver of a horse drawn cart.

The victim, Jonathan Bontrager, was thrown from the cart and airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rupkey has been charged with felony operating while intoxicated causing death.

If this driver was under the infulence than he should be held accountable. The article states that he failed all 3 road side tests. In a situation like this the road side test shouldn't even be done. He is going for blood work no matter what. The driver was clearly distraught, he may have not been able to preform the tests at the officers request because of his emotional state, that makes it a refusal & a refusal instantly means gulit. I never agreed with that, & most states have made it law.

Also, in a situation like this the cops want someone to pay, so if they can hold the driver on the smallest thing they will. We know nothing of this drivers service with the company or his overall saftey record. This may well be a tragic accident, either way lives have been changed forever.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- A tractor-trailer driver was charged with murder after his truck crashed into a horse-drawn buggy in southern Kentucky, killing an Amish toddler and injuring three members of her family, authorities said Saturday.

Christian County Sheriff's Sgt. Ed Campbell told The Associated Press that 52-year-old Mark Bohms of Robinson, Ill., is also charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, three counts of assault and criminal mischief. No bond has been set, and it was unclear if Bohms had an attorney.

Bohms reached down to grab a cigarette as he was cresting a hill Friday night just inside the Hopkinsville city limit, according to the police report.
When he looked up, he was behind the buggy and attempted to shift lanes. But he hit the buggy, flattening it and knocking off its wheels.

Three-year-old Barber Smoker was killed. Abram Smoker, 58, Susie Smoker, 57, and Katie Smoker, 15, were injured. Their exact relationships were unclear.

Even if he was NOT under the influence, he was under the assumption he could not pay full time and attention, over the years, I have been guilty of the same, thank God, I have not caused an accident, but "in the twinkling of an eye" it could happen.

My last accident, though it was a fender bender happned because I was fussing at the dog .... but I was also only going 10mph in stop and go traffice.

Restrict ALL T/T rigs to 28' on those roads, lower speed limits to 45 on those roads, NO T/T rigs on those roads on Sundays when buggy traffic is heavy.

Check Amish for drugged or drug driving as well.

Male Egos kill a lot of drivers. We are stubborn, rude, and all situations interrupt our perfect world on the road. If u think this last statement is rude, then listen to truck drivers over the CB when there is a backup on the interstate. You have been there and done that IMHO.:( We all could use a dose of manners, paying attention, and realize we are not the only ones with problems, imagine that................geeze.

FYI: The driver ran over the buggy from the rear. Rear end collision - his fault The End...Of course only my opinion (& the law)

How true. I don't know how many times I have been in a backup and some driver on the CB yells out "I got to go" like everybody else has nowhere to go. Is it just me oe do most drivers on the CB sound the same. Jerry Lee

Or the driver that is speed limited and takes 10 miles to pass another truck holding everyone up and then as soon as he passes the truck he gets off the highway:mad:
What did that driver really gain?
