RLENT: as the 'Stolen Valor' thread illustrates, the difference between a symbol and the thing it represents is a tough one to grasp for some folks.

While I have not kept up with that particular thread, I read enough of it to see that there are at least some amongst us that seem to be sadly confused about the true nature of certain things ....

One's own personal integrity, honor, and valor are the type of things which cannot be taken or stolen by anyone ..... ultimately, they truly can only be willingly surrendered by those that possess them .....

which makes me wonder: if a mugger took their wedding ring, would they still be married?

Yes, they certainly would ..... much to the detriment of their unfortunate spouse ....
