    Own authority/broker a good idea?

KY, If you have anymore questions, pm or the others. I'm new to the expedite world, but not to trucking. If it was as hard as it was with regular freight, then I could only imagine the nightmares one might face trying to have their own #'s in expedite. Maybe you try some of these other...

    Own authority/broker a good idea?

If all you have is a box truck and you only haul expedited type freight or ltl loads, then I say your better off with letting the larger companies find your loads. They have a MUCH larger base to work from then any load board you'd come across. There are about 3 other major boards to use...

    Petro in Bordentown, NJ

I was there a couple times when I pulled a skateboard.......and I was there twice a week when I hauled cars in and out of Jersey.......It sucked then and its even worse now. I do remember seeing a LOT of expediters sitting around.....but your right......its slimmed down in the last couple...

    Solo Drivers.......is it worth it?

Yeah, After reading the back logs and crunching the #'s even further, I think my best bet is my original goal of driving for someone for 6 months to a year, then buying a truck w/ cash. That would eliminate most the axienty right off the bat I think. I'm still not seeing the driver section...

    Solo Drivers.......is it worth it?

Thats glad to hear that I should at least get 900/1000 miles a week. The truck 05 w/ a 20ft box. Those figures include my personal food and cell phone (cheap). Insurance, qualcom and all other expenses are in that estimate. That basically is the bare min. that I would need to make a week to...

    Solo Drivers.......is it worth it?

So I just spoke with someone that is looking to lease the truck. I have ran the obvious figures of mile/income/fuel/maintance and I've come to determind this. Let me know how accurate, or close or off I am. To make the payments, fuel, insurance and maintance I would need a MIN of 900 miles...

    Solo Drivers.......is it worth it?

Thanks for all the input! I'm starting to get the big picture of expedite from this board. I'm reading and asking and reading more and 2 + 2 is starting to add up. The trends seem to follow from where I have been in trucking and its starting to make sense esp when yall mentioned the info...

    Solo Drivers.......is it worth it?

Ok, so I've spent the last hour or 2 going back through and reading all the old stuff. Seems that everyone was saying that solos can't make it out there. I'm sure some of you read my post about houston and cargo vans, but after doing more and more research I'm wondering if the solo guys can...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Yeah, I feel right now is the best time for me to get into this. Can anyone give me a lead as to where to find the best job. I have emailed ALOT of the cargo van ads from this site, but do any of the carriers place drivers w/ owners? If anyone out there seeks a driver.....get ahold of me:)...

    Weight Distribution

Guys, I do believe he said tandems, so make that gross most likely a 52,000 GVW. If this is the case, you most likely would never go over........all that it really sounds like is the comfort of the ride. like everyone else said, play around with the loads and see what fits for you. As far...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

I don't have any other those bills. No wife, kids, morgage, car payments......only my cell phone at this time!!! Thats why I was trying my hand at expediting! I'd love to own a van or straight truck someday and figured with no bills would I still make enough to survive on the road and save a...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Hey guys, I posted in the Driver for hire section for cargo van. I did a search too and read the ups and downs. Coming into this new year so far, how is freight for vans? Could I expect to make between $400-$600 a week after fuel? If that is realistic I'd really like to jump in a van...

Are you ready for DOT 2010?

It almost seems like a taxable DAC system. You already have a federal file with your name on it when you get your cdl. Right now the only way to fault that file is for your employer to add the x marks by filing. I see this as a good and bad for sure. Current laws fault the company name/#...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Rob, Thanks for the insight. I do remember seeing lots of dully's hauling oil rig stuff and fuel plant stuff when I lived there and would run through there. I've made a good size list of who to be calling, so I'll update after I make some headway. Chop

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Thanks for the info turtle. I do have a awsome mechanic that will be with me when looking for a van, so that is no biggie. I was hoping to find a local courier to houston and I have dug up about 8 and will be calling on Monday. I was hoping to stay local being that my brother is relocating to...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Sounds good. I think my game plan is to search and eliminate the local companies first, then move to the otr based companies. I'd like to work fairly local for the first 6 months or so incase I have trouble with the van, once I trust it I would be ok venturing out further from home. Thanks...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

I know they have a sales center here in Manassas and I think one in Richmond. I've been sitting here doing some researching about Houston area companies and came across "CourierBoard" and found about 8 companies local, so I'll call each of them on Monday. I'm pretty sure the smaller more local...

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Is it possible to find out bound loads that would allow me to dh back to houston? I'm assuming that would pretty much eat up any profit I make on a load? Chop

    Relocating to Houston, just wondering!

Hey yall, I did a search for "Houston" but didn't come up with much other then people posting where their locations are. I'm currently living up in Virginia and have found a good place to buy used cargo vans. Most are 99-01 and have between 105k and 180k miles. The prices seem to be...
