when an expedited load turns out to not really be an expedite

Aha! It's an expedite and not on the schedule. I screwed up the rotation. UAW people are never really all that happy to see anyone but they really don't care for me or my freight at all right now. Makes perfect sense. Hahaha!

when an expedited load turns out to not really be an expedite

I'm curious how it can be that everyone trying to cover any given "hot" load is all concerned and up at arms about if you can make the protect time and then when you get to the receiver they don't even want to look at you and tell you to wait, wait, wait driver? You're told it will get real...

What happens when we go through a Florida Scale

I don't know what they're doing but it sure is aggravating to always get red lights at the ag stations! At ag stations I never really see them do anything.

    100% FSC, Really?

A little off topic but we recently got cost plus pricing at Pilot/Flying J on fuel. The aggravating thing with it, as with every other fuel savings program, is that you swipe the card at the pump but the discount does now show up on that nor your receipt. It will always show the current cash...

I want to bid on load boards.. HELP!

Yes, very limiting to one's self being in a smaller truck. Honestly if you are in a straight truck you're probably much better off leased on at some mid sized to larger carrier where they specialize in freight for smaller trucks than being independent. More often than not one truck operations...

I want to bid on load boards.. HELP!

I'm leased on to a carrier and bid on loads all the time. In fact everything I book is from the open market of Internet Truck Stop, DAT, CHR, LS or whoever is paying top dollar on their excess critical needs in the moment. Work with a lot of different carriers out here mega and small alike...

Questions in the grand scheme of things…Part 2

Lol. Nobody listens or stick their head in the sand anyways. It's not illegal but really calls into question the seemingly unreproachable integrity of those who do it.

Questions in the grand scheme of things…Part 2

Re: transparency Filtering loads thru a separate brokerage company to skim money off the top is how a lot of companies out here do it. It's pretty much standard operating procedure.

    Seasonal?

Sure but as you know trucking is just different than anything else. For most drivers just having weekends off would be a step up. Even that sometimes means 1 day weekends. It's a hard life. But if you're covering most of the big expenses there is no excuse for not having full control over...

    Seasonal?

I don't necessarily work seasonally but only end up working about 7 months out of the year. This year probably will be closer to 8 or 9 months. If you're independent it's no big deal just take time off. If you're leased on at a carrier the vast majority will have issues and expect you to be...

    Driver Cams?

I remember 12 or 13 years ago when HOS was first changed from the way it had been since the 1930's. Around that time bad apple carriers who were getting busted often over compliance issues were being forced into running EOBR's. It was the firstwidespread officially mandated use sort of when...

    Turn Down For What?

2 reasons. 1st is money. 2nd goes somewhere not on my lanes. Midwest and southeast are my lanes. Texas only if the rate is better than round trip most times. East coast from VA, WVA, PA and eastwards just don't exist to me regardless of the price. Those states aren't even on my cab card...

    53' dry van expediter special

It would automatically lift the front axle as soon as the trailer brakes were released as long as there was no more than 20,000 lbs sensed as the weight on the rear axles. No driver input is required with the smart lift it's automatic. Mine is technically not supposed to be lifted when loaded...

    53' dry van expediter special

If you're looking at new trailers it would be best (imo) to spec Hendrickson smartlift suspension a $3,500 upgrade over typical Hendrickson suspension. I believe it lifts higher on the smartlift suspension. Bridgestone has spec'd smartlift on their new Utility dry vans. That's the only thing...

    53' dry van expediter special

Been a month since this upgrade. 6,290 total hub miles driven. 3,619 miles, or 57%, with the axle lifted off the ground. 700 of those miles with the axle up were loaded miles and the rest were empty miles. A 350 lb 1 pallet load going 380 miles and the one I completed this morning 5 pallets...

    Moving up...

There is not always a cargo van or straight truck around the block to haul every load that will fit on them. It is what it is. If the freight has to go then it will go at full truckload rate.

    Moving up...

Guys with miles mentalities or ones who are always trying to meet minimum daily revenue goals are the ones trying to compete with the railroads and running so cheap. The miles mentality so prevalent in our industry plays right into my hands. Good teams, and even solos, at most any dry van...

    Moving up...

Part of the versatility is not be limited to and stuck on auto industry although cargo van loads in a TT paying TT time critical rates are a bonus from time to time. I realize there is a lot more to expediting than auto parts but for most of these small cargo vans that's the only sand box they...

    Expedite & Wait

Doesn't matter if it paid a high rate or not. If your contract or Qualcomm or whatever op utilizes is an agreement to pick and deliver and if he gets to receiver and they are telling him it reloads back... ....at that point there is the matter of pay for the trip back. Sometimes it'll pay 75%...

    Saying "no" to cheap freight!!

If you could find a way to sell a backhaul any time, every time then you'd get rich. Really it can't be done if the conditions for it don't exist. IMO circumstance is always the biggest factor in any given rate.
