Notanewbie is right on. Cost is important, but carriers are scored monthly and put into Tier groups based on those scores. Those tiers make it harder for poor performing carriers to get loads.

I was a dispatcher for a while too. We were paid by the hour and no bonus - didn't need to lie. If the dispatchers are getting a bonus based on what they cover; that's when I would look for the lies of omission and flatout lies to start flying.:(

You also have some shippers that don't want to deal with a carrier unless they have a minimum # of trucks or that you have had your authority for over a year, etc. Like Dennis said, it can take some deep pockets to make it work.

I have one of those and I just plug it directly into the receptacle. It has gotten only slightly warm after running for a few hours. Had it for years and never had a problem. I'd take it back.
