    Speed Limiter Phone Calls

I just read something very interesting in this thread where Turtle said, "...with Panther, anyway, if you get a load into Canada, just before you cross the border, you have the Speed Limiter set at a specific facility near the border. Immediately after coming back out, you have the Speed Limiter...

    Trying to figure something out

This is part of what makes the own-authority thing unattractive. Say you get the sweet deal exactly as you anticipated. What's to keep a guy like me from learning about the same shipper's needs and stealing the deal away? Say I drive the same kind of truck you do. I could easily walk into the...

Visiting the Biltmore House in Ashville, NC

Tinted windows, yes. Dark, no. If you look close at the photo above, you can see the green grass while looking simultainously through both the side window and the windshield. Dark tinted windows would obscure the grass.

    Trying to figure something out

It's simple. We make more money leasing our straight truck to our carrier of choice than we would if we got our own authority and booked our own loads. For us, expedting is about the lifestyle, which is why we are in a straight truck. But it is first about the money and meeting specific...

    Again....Mississippi

I was pulled in for a stringent Level 2 inspection in Ohio on Friday. Details and photo here. We had a HAZMAT load on. The officer worked from a car labeled "Hazardous Materials Safety Enforcement." Is that new in Ohio or just new to me?

    Terminology and other things

This Trucker's News article provides a brief introduction to own-authority paperwork. To learn more about own-authority, do a Google search on "Truck Operating Authority." A number of EO Open Forum members operate under their own authority. Perhaps some of them can explain the costs and...

Visiting the Biltmore House in Ashville, NC

I put a slide show of our visit up on my web site. No house interior shots are included as photos are prohibited inside the house. After a day away from the Biltmore House, Diane and I are already ready to go back. Wingnut did it right, taking in the attraction and then taking it in again and...

    Countdown to the Expo

Linda is right. The show really is that good. However, if you have to borrow money to get to the show, it would be wise to seriously consider whether expediting is the right opportunity for you before going into debt to attend an industry trade show. Expediters here in the open forum...

Visiting the Biltmore House in Ashville, NC

Diane and I met relatives who live in the area and visited the Biltmore House in Ashville, NC yesterday. Admission is $45 each and well worth the price. The staff is guest friendly and parking for straight trucks and tractors is readily available. Stop first at the welcome center to get your...

Who's New in the Business? I'd Like to Hear From You

These reports, and one received privately so far, are great. I'll share them with people at the Expo. If there are more out there, I'm all ears.

Bad news for Flying J fans

The statement made by Crystal Call had to be a difficult one for her to make. She is the daughter of company founder Jay Call. Her name was given to the Crystal Inns that you sometimes see near Flying J properties. No word, it seems, about how the merged properties will be branded or managed...

Bad news for Flying J fans

This book was written several years ago. Written by an unapologetic fan of Jay Call and the Call family, and with a pro-Flying J bias, it explains the early history of Flying J, including info about Comdata. Used copies can be purchased at Amazon for under a dollar plus shipping. For the price...

As we have seen from many forecasters, the date of the recovery keeps getting pushed out further and further. A year ago, many forecasters were saying the recovery would have started by now. Thank you for sharing, dabluzman. Another recovery forcast is no big thing but one that comes from the...
