Again....Mississippi

DOT was working hard at both coupes on I55 today. While I made it through without having to stop, the roosters were in the yard working hard. South bound side had a sprinter van pulled in. I am not sure which company logo was on it, but I think it was a Express 1. A lady officer was in back with her note pad doing a light check on it. According to drivers on the CB, Mississippi works like that about everyday. I know everytime I have been through the state, they were working hard at one location or another.

Got stopped by a DOT officer on the Oklahoma turnpike the other day for an inspection. Officer Housely wanted to do a level 1 but since I already had my 09 sticker said he would go ahead and do a level 3. Officer Housely has to be one of the friendliest officers I have ever had the pleasure to be stopped by. After I got my no violations paper and continued on my way I made sure to call his precinct to speak with his supervisor. Just wanted to let the supervisor know what a turely out-standing and friendly officer Mr. Housely is.

Folks, so often we complain when there is something we don't like, let's all take a minute to let these men and women know when they are doing an out-standing job as well. :)

I was pulled in for a stringent Level 2 inspection in Ohio on Friday. Details and photo here.

We had a HAZMAT load on. The officer worked from a car labeled "Hazardous Materials Safety Enforcement." Is that new in Ohio or just new to me?

I have been told that cargo vans do not have to stop at weigh stations. Does that go for all states? Thanks.

There are some states that legally require us vans to go into the scales but they(DOT) don't want us in....
I inquire if you don't want us in, why have the signs posted at 8,000 GVW?...they blame the state legislators....

I know that doesn't answer the question ,,there are way too many variables to be precise...I have never scaled and never been chased down for not stopping in 9 years....

The only place I did go into was the port of entry in Wyoming...law requires ANY commercial vehicle that delivers WITHIN the state to go in...we don't go on the scale but have to register the load...if your passing thru then don't bother...thats for a van of course....

Upon entering/exiting the state of Florida all commercial vehicles, cargo vans, rented vans are required to stop at their agricultural check station. Most of the time when we roll thru the guy doesn't even look at us, just waves us thru. Other times all he asks is what we have in the back, then tells us to have a good day.

There are also ag inspection stations going into CA. While in the Air Force I did a self move from FL to CA. Stopped at a station going into CA. Told the guy it was household goods But he wanted to look into the back anyway. It was packed to the rollup door. Things tended to shift going down the road. So the wife and two kids stationed themselfs at the back with thier hands up to catch anything that fell. The inspector saw this and took a couple of steps back. I raised to door about a foot. He asked if it was all mine. I said yes and he sent me on my way. Jerry Lee
