    Low Paying Load Opps

Pick up in Alaska, deliver in Atlanta. $2.50 per mile all miles, including deadhead. You got the load because sitting in Oregon you are the closest truck. We were sorry to see that one get by us on C-Link.:( (;))

    How Much?

Whatever features a truck may or may not have, the truck is more enjoyable when everything works. I hope your recently cleaned fuel system works. I'd also get to the bottom of the cooling issue. With an Onan driving a roof unit in a sleeper just 100 inches large, it seems to me that you should...

    How Much?

Interesting comment and quite the contrast to what we get with our Onan (Quiet Diesel 7,500), ARI sleeper (132") and Carrier roof unit (Air V). I note our sleeper is 32" larger than your SST 100 and wonder if the difference is due to the original configuration, mechanical issues, maintenance...

    Move Those Transponders and Stickers

Our GPS (Garmin) mounts on the dash board, not the windshield. Satellite radio antenna is mounted outside on the roof.

    Move Those Transponders and Stickers

CSA 2010 motivates us all to be more diligent in little things that did not seem to matter much before. Diane and I recently "remodeled" our windshield by moving transponders and stickers to legal areas. It's been a while but I seem to recall that when we got our EZ-Pass and PrePass...

    How Much?

I agree. Bill Moore at TSI Western Star in North Jackson Ohio. This was an independent truck repair shop before they picked up the Western Star line of trucks some years ago. They have done a lot of good for a number of expediters who had generator problems that other shops could not seem to...

    How Much?

If your need is for heat only, an Espar heater is a fantastic solution. I know of bog-sleeper trucks that have both an Espar heater and an Onan generator. If we were to build our truck again, we would seriously consider the same configuration.

    Some Days

Your repair shop owner might be interested to learn about Onan generators. We purchased ours new with the truck in 2003 and have 8,000 hours on it now. In that time, it has been in the shop once for a repair. That was in the first month. A defective fuel pump was cheerfully replaced under...

    Please Explain

This is just a guess but one that would explain things if true. WG trucks have a number of flags that make them eligible for various types of loads. It may be that the Albuquerque truck thinks it has the same flags as you but does not. It sometimes happens that a flag gets changed, mistakenly...

    All expenses paid driver pay?

I am thinking the same thing. RickG is asking about a "good salary" and "pay scale." Employees think about salaries and pay scales. Self-employed independent contractors think about gross and net revenue. Given certain circumstances, an expediter may go an entire month without making a dime...

    down time

You can reduce the length of the learning curve by seeking advice from others who are competent to give it. It's better to learn from other people's mistakes than from your own, and if you are a quick study, it will show in your numbers. New people in the business will not likely know which...

Something for Newbies to Think about / TJP's Trials

Excellent post and right on the money, so to speak. There are additional benefits in having deep reserves even if you don't have a major accident or extended down time due to mechanical failure. They include: -- The ability to get home from anywhere in the country if an urgent need to do so...

    Friday the 13th?

I don't belive in luck or crystal balls but do believe in probabilities. Like you, Diane and I would have taken the load you did that got you to Denver. If arriving there we found it to be slow, we would not wait more than a day or two before moving to Kansas City, a center where the probability...

    Low Paying Load Opps

Notice that some of those people may wonder what all the fuss is about regarding repeat load offers. They won't see them because they are under load a lot more of the time than those who decline low-paying freight. And because they won't see them as often, they won't have a complaint as much...

    Thanks Commercial Insurance Solutions

Sadly, one must fight to receive benefits previously paid for because many insurance companies have adopted the "Deny, Delay, Defend" approach to paying claims. There is a book by that name that lays it all out. There are many stories. One is about Diane and me before we became expediters. A...

    Thanks Commercial Insurance Solutions

Arrangements like this, and the presence of an agent that works for you, stand in stark contrast to the arrangement that is available by default through our carrier. With that insurance, if you have a problem or question, you end up talking into the big black hole that insurance company is. In...

    Air Tabs

Not true. Concerned? yes. Spooked? My word. Freaking out? Incorrect characterization. True. But when Diane and I are on a long run, operating in drive/sleep mode, it is easier to voice concerns and get answers here. Thank you for the information. Spooked no more. The event behind my...
