    Yellow penske trucks

Well, Johnnypenske, I expect I'll be reading about you sooner or later. Overweight and in the ditch because you fell asleep behind the wheel, hope you don't take a minivan with a family out with you. About that sleep bit: It has a nasty way of catching up on you. You're driving along, feeling...

    Yellow penske trucks

Viktor's posts put up enough red flags for a communist convention. I would run from that, just as fast as I could. I do have to wonder about sexpenses though. He's the first I've seen who would apparently be willing to pay for his driver's lot lizard account.

    Yellow penske trucks

I had an up-close and personal look at one of these things last night. Cut-away van with a box, dual rear wheels. Illinois "D" license plate. Payload markings inside the box indicate it can haul just over 2,000, the driver told me it had been upped to 3,500. It's a huge box, easily four skids...

    Yellow penske trucks

They are out there-- running six skids, way over the magic 10K and hoping they don't get caught. They're over 10K all right, regardless of the lettering on the outside of the door. I stand by what I wrote, it remains the truth. If you're in a cutaway van with a box body and dual rear wheels--...

Brake week coming to you sept 8-14th

By a very strange coincidence, I am shut down for brakes. Not by the law-- it just happened. Broke a hydraulic line up in the left front, brakes got real "chancey" after that. Fortunately, I was able to get it in for repairs without anything bad happening. Funny that it should happen during...

    Unmarked white cargo van...profiling?

Maybe. I have large signs, and that might have something to do with it.

    Unmarked white cargo van...profiling?

I bought at a place where they make signs for all sorts of purposes, any of the major sign stores should be able to do it. I didn't go in for any artwork, just basic black letters on a white background.

    Unmarked white cargo van...profiling?

I had a set of magnetic signs made. Cost about $125 for the pair, and it ends a lot of "unmarked van" problems before they get started. On the occasions where the signs might create problems-- when I'm on my own time, personal use-- the signs come down and stow inside easy enough.

    Is this a short?

I worry about you guys. The very thought of you around the battery electrical system...... The alternator produces alternating current, to be sure. Your vehicle can't use AC current, so it's piped through a bridge rectifier that changes the AC to DC. At the output terminals, you're getting...

    Yellow penske trucks

HHD, you're running legal so I suspect most of the guys here have no or little problems with you. The problem is the guys who are running identical trucks to yours, but trying to skate under 10K gross. They're hauling just as much freight as you do, but trying to get by without being caught.

    Yellow penske trucks

This is one of those areas that gets "funny" awfully quick. Sure, the vehicle may be over 10K-- but he doesn't have to log. The reason is because the vehicle is used within 100 miles-- in fact many of these vehicles don't travel 25 miles from the base-- and the driver is home every night. He may...

    Yellow penske trucks

I saw one of these things the other day. Cut-away van with a box, dual tires on the rear axle, yellow, and of course the "Under 10,000" marking on the door. It was also marked with expedited company markings, and I must admit to some problem understanding how they stay legal. That set-up can't...

    What would you do?

How about this: Your speedometer is likely a bit off. It will tend to read higher than you're actually going by a mile or two at 65. At least, that's what I've found to be consistently true. Indicate 65 on the speedometer, radar guns and GPS units will agree that it's actually 63 or thereabout...

    What would you do?

I'm still more interested in averages, rather than maximum speed. My GPS may show that I hit a top speed of 75 mph, but that I averaged 53 mph while moving. A top speed may very well be an aberration, however the average moving speed could be more of a tell-tale. If you just took a look at the...

    What would you do?

I am interested in one point. The Garmin showed the top speed to be 90+ mph. Did the unit show consistently high MPH, or was it possible he touched 90 briefly then backed down? Not that this makes much difference in one sense, some vehicles get a bit unstable at high speed and it doesn't take...

    Indianapolis I-70/I-65

It might not be a bad idea to figure other work-arounds as well. This segment is right in the heart of the city, you can imagine what 465 is going to be like during rush-hours. For those who didn't get the alert (they gave information at the rest stops, I have a copy of it from one of these...

    Yellow penske trucks

Not enough lighter to scale under 10K fully loaded. I've seen certain U-Hauls that have an under-10K rating, but those things are so small that you can't have much in there at all.

    Yellow penske trucks

I would imagine that Penske has more sense than that, anyway. They have a corporate image, safety, a desire not to get sued into the ground and all the rest of that to consider. When I had one of their rentals, the GVW and the allowable payload were clearly marked--- which is one reason I don't...

    Yellow penske trucks

For the record, I weighed my beast. The door sticker reads 8600GVWR. I had just filled up, so I had full gas tank. No freight, just my stuff and me in the seat. The van, as it stood then, weighed 5700 or thereabouts. 8600 - 5700 gives me 2900 that I can play with. Beyond that, I'm looking for...
