Work on Ohio River bridge causes backups
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Drivers are facing long traffic delays because of lane closures on a bridge carrying U.S. 31 over the Ohio River.
Painting and repair work could last for more than two months on the Clark Memorial Bridge, which normally has two lanes open in each direction between Jeffersonville and Louisville, Ky. The project has an overall deadline of Oct. 1, but the work that will cause lane closures is targeted for May and June.
Commuters say it typically takes just two minutes to get across the bridge but is taking about 40 minutes now. Some said they would take alternate routes rather than face traffic on the bridge.
